I have been away from the machine. so I am answering in youngest to oldest
order of messages, if the replies get goofy then you'll understand why,
I am not a fan of the search engines. They take way more maintenance than I
can provide. They might be a suggestion, but why put any thing on the page
other than the minimum required.
I'll also jump in here on another topic or should I say pet peeve. Music on
a site. It might be nice and cute but it sure is annoying when you are in
the public library using a computer for research also very difficult to shut
down or turn off.
It aggravates me.
pet peeve time over, back to excavating my mailbox.

Subject: Re: [BY-LAWS] Site requirements/suggestions
After doing some more research and talking to more people, I'm inclined to
change my mind. If search engines are not installed and *maintained*
correctly, they can be more frustrating for researchers than not having one
at all. So, maybe it should be suggested, but not required.
Deborah, Barbara, Jeanne, what do you think?

I think a search engine is extremely important, particularly for the

I've been doing some checking on search engines. I think they are very
important to the convenience of the researcher and should be required. The
only drawback I could see is that RootsWeb did not allow them. Apparently
that has changed. Several of our GAGenWeb sites on RootsWeb already have
them.
So, what do you think: require them or not?
