From another perspective, I would appreciate a separate "voluntary" list
where lengthy conversations and exchanges could be directed.
The traffic on this list serve has grown immensely over the years and not
all of us enjoy having our in-boxes flooded with the number of responses and
replies that ensue.
" What sort of things would be kept to the "main required" list?" I
could
see this list reserved for postings of announcements and/or critical
information relative to maintenance and business of the genweb sites. So
elections, new rules, times the system(s) are down. New links to helpful
genealogical sites would be posted here. That type of announcement.
The question not asked...."What sort of things would be kept to the
"non-required" list?"
Again, this is my preference so may not match everyone else but here goes.
Most of us are at differing skill levels on software and so discussion and
tips on what type of software and how to fix things, for example, could go
to the "voluntary" list-serve.
Virus alerts would go on the volunteer site.
Hellos and greetings would go on the volunteer site.
Just a few thoughts. Hope it helps and for the record, I think it's a great
idea. My vote is Yes, start a separate list.

Personally, I don't see any reason to have another list. If we
can't all
talk about things in the open among the RC's & SC, what's
the use?

It's been suggested that we create an additional Georgia mailing list for
CCs (which would not be a required one), where matters could be discussed
at more length than on the "required" present mailing list that all of you
are subbed to.
(It would still be JUST for CCs....)
I know many of you have had experiences with other states and how they
handle this, and would like to hear some of your observations and
comments.
Would having another list be helpful to you?
Would you be apt to subscribe to it voluntarily?
What sort of things would be kept to the "main required" list?
We won't draw this out, but I would be very interested in hearing your
comments, and if you'd prefer writing to me privately, that's fine too.
I've always considered communication among CCs to be so important, so I
want to be sure we're doing what would help you all the most.

the privacy of 'living persons'. If you encounter a person searching
