It is a little hard to tell what a reporter would report about or in what
light they might report something before they have done it, so I think it is
wrong for any of us to pass judgement on that "before the fact".
I, myself joined the project after researching in the US GenWeb project for
several years. I researched in Georgia and found the site for my birth
county lacking in information. I had alot of information myself that I felt
would be helpful to other researchers. I offered this information to be
included on the county site and it did not get added to the site. At that
time, I had NO idea about the "politics" of the project, but I knew from the
"activity" on the mail list at the time, that there were others who had the
same experience. When the county came up for adoption, I requested it and
was honored to receive it.
I feel that I have been able to add quite a bit to help researchers in this
county and have heard the same from researchers.
I believe it is unfair to make "veiled" remarks about "groups" of
people
having this intent or that. I have corresponded with quite a few county
coordinators in GA GenWeb and have not run into anyone yet who joined this
project with an "agenda" other than to help other people.
It is obvious there are problems with our state project that need to be
resolved so that it can move on and fluorish. I believe we have an avenue,
narrow though it is, to resolve some of the issues we have. The process
that we have is to report any problems you feel there are to the RC of a
particular region where that problem lies. If you are not satisfied with
the results of that then the issues should be taken to an ASC and or the SC.
If the problems are not resolved through this process, then there are
remedies, again they are not what I believe they should be but are laid out
in the US GenWeb ByLaws.
I, personally, intend to report the problems that I feel exist in GAGenWeb
to the RC of the regions where these problems lie or the person responsible
for the project and I will personally pursue the rest of the process until I
feel it has been resolved to my satisfaction.
Is it any of my business? Yes.
Is it my right to do this? Yes.
My "volunteer" time is on the same level with everyone else in this project.
It should not be valued any more or less than someone elses. In addition,
my responsibilites to this volunteer project and each individual volunteer
are the same as everyone else. And, yes, I do believe we should act
responsibly in our roles as CC's.
Have I been here since the "beginning"? No.
Should being here from the "beginning" afford certain people more rights
than others? No.
If you see problems that trouble you within the project, use the avenues
that we have right now to report those problems and follow through with the
process until you are satisfied. It is your right to do this. It is not
"troublemaking". The "trouble" is already there and until it is
resolved,
there will be problems....which keeps all of us from doing what we love to
do...help others and contribute!
Respectfully,
Linda Blum-Barton

Your right it won't and it won't show genealogist in a good light nor the
kind works that many people have done with the project since the beginning
but it will make a couple of people happy and isn't that what it is all
about? As I said earlier months ago..some had/have other agendas when they
joined the project and when they went about their merry way of inciting
problems among the members...I call it adding gasoline to the fire....Gloria
