The subject of indexing volunteers has been brought up on USGW Discuss list.
Some people are volunteering to do this for
FamilySearch.org.
I think if you are interested in working on an index for your Georgia County
(ies) and/or transcribing the entire census for your county, the best way to
go about that would be to obtain the templates from The USGenWeb Census
Project and work with those.

Once you have completed the files you work on, they will upload the files to
be available through the census project but you could also use the text
files generated to post them on your county websites if you'd like.
