Here's what the governor said on Sept. 19:

"We're working on our budget proposals, and we're going to *make
sure* the archives stay open."
Here's what his form letter to a supporter said yesterday:
"Thank you for writing to request my assistance regarding the state
archives. I appreciate your concerns and will endeavor to retain the
current level of access by the public to these cherished resources,
*if possible.*
"As this falls under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State's
office, I have referred your letter to Secretary of State Brian Kemp
for his review. You may contact his office for more information:"
[followed by contact info]
Kemp already has said he will not change his mind.
Of course, you can draw your own conclusions, but it appears to me
that the governor is now back-peddling. We need to keep
writing/calling the governor and our legislators.
