Linda,
I have the passwords for Columbia, Jasper and Hancock, but can't for the life of me
find Walton. I can't even find the folder where I keep such things. Do you know if
you have it? If not I will go to password central and request it. It's blanked out
on my ftp program.
When I get Walton I will send the other 3 passwords, etc, to you should something happen
to me. You probably already know them anyway, especially Columbia.
I was searching around on line the other day and found a couple of old site for Walton and
one for Jasper I think. Do you want me to look them back up and send you the web
addresses to check them out...they are confusing when you do a google search and the old
site comes up.
I just don't seem to have my head together since my son passed away. I'm trying
to get back to doing what I "used to" like to do, but it's hard.

Please note if you have your sites on RootsWeb that it does not
appear that they will offer new free webspace in the future. What we have or you have
registered to the project now is fine and will be going forward as far as I know BUT you
need to make sure that you keep your passwords safe, ie somewhere other than just on your
computer or in your ftp program. If you know the webspace is registered to you or Vivian
or myself and you know for sure what email address it is registered with then you would be
able to obtain your password if lost through password central but it appears they may not
continue to change passwords for us.
If you have moved your sites off of RW space and still have the RW space registered to you
or have the login/password for that space, please let us know. We would like to hang on
to as much available space as we can for now.
Also, please consider making sure that someone knows how to access your sites in case
something were to happen to you. We keep a database with passwords, etc. for all of the
webspace we have had registered to us for the project and will be glad to maintain a copy
of your information also if you’d like. But do make sure you have access to it somewhere
and consider having a second person keep that information also.
Since I became SC, I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to clean up our
presence on the web. When I began, there were sometimes 3 or 4 old county sites
accessible on the web which made it confusing for researchers when they would turn those
up in searches. I have had several counties where there were actually at one time 3
different sites on RW servers for the same county. I was able to consolidate those and
close down the extra sites if they had been abandoned which has helped. I also have had
RW space that we had access to registered to myself or Vivian so that we could make it
available to new CC’s or to the project in the case of someone resigning.
Please think about this and do what you can to help us not lose the data we have all
worked hard to build up over the years!
If you have any questions about RW, please let me know. There hasn’t been any official
announcement made that I know of but this comes from responses I and another SC have
received from them.
