One of my favorites and one I use for reference to history of Georgia, creation of
counties, historical maps, historical markers, county courthouses, and just about anything
you would want to know about Georgia is the Carl Vinson Institute of Government web site.

Although it is not strictly a genealogy web site it includes information we sometimes need
in doing research.

Subject: [GAGEN] Brainstorming session
Hi Everyone:
I would like to have a "Getting started in GA
Genealogy" web page(s).
If you already have appropriate materials on-line,
please post the URLs (or send to me privately) - no
sense in re-inventing the wheel.
What kinds of resources are out there for the newbie?
- I know the Sec. of State's web site has a lot of
good stuff. Are there any free state-wide indexes of
anything?
Keith has just sent me an update list for "what County
is ______ in?"
