Some of the problems of getting to Rootsweb sites may be caused by DNS
issues.
Pat Asher explains it:
"DNS = Domain Name System
It is an internet directory that translates domain names to IP (Internet
Protocol) addresses.
We humans recognize and interpret addresses as
rootsweb.com or
aol.com
Computers recognize numbers and every "domain" on the web is found by other
computers using their IP address, i.e.
rootsweb.com = 66.43.18.22
aol.com = 64.12.187.24
The DNS directory is a lookup device your ISP uses to locate RootsWeb or
any other server on the web. If the server DNS fails, then you will not be
able to reach the site. If your ISPs DNS library is out of synch (hasn't
been updated recently) you can reach a site if you know the IP address, i.e.
http://66.43.18.22
will currently deliver the RootsWeb homepage :) "
Hope this helps explains why we can't get to our list utilities, etc at
times.
