Hello:
Hello:
Well said Gloria and Ron. I couldn't agree more. This is a travesty! Let's
ask the hard questions and see if we can't find out some answers.
1.) This question is for the folks who are supposed to be watching out for
the GAGenWeb: The SEMA's, the RAL and the NC. Who is representing GAGenWeb?
Our leadership has been suspended for 60 days on trumped up charges over
domain names that Tim paid for himself and for dismissing members who kept
our e-mail boxes full of bickering whining diatribes against Tim, other
members and any other cause they could dream up. Believe me nothing was too
small, silly or stunningly stupid for them to generate 80 e-mails picking it
apart. If you don't believe me spend a little time reading through the
mailing list archives. This brings me to question number 2.
2.) This question is for all of you people who were so unhappy with the
GAGenWeb that you made all of us miserable. Why? That is the question, Why?
No one asked you to volunteer and no one made you stay. If you were so
unhappy why didn't you just find another project instead of taking this one
to the brink of hell?
3.) What is the real reason for taking those domain names and taking over
the GAGenWeb? It can't be because you are "protecting" us. We weren't in
any
danger. Tim has been on this project since the day it began and has put up
with far more than any human being would if he wasn't dedicated to making it
work. I don't need protection from Tim but I sure think I need protection
from you!
4.) What are the by-laws for if they change to fit the situation? Along
those lines, the hyperlink for viewing the bylaws is broken. Who knows about
that?
5.) Why is the information that I have posted on my site myself or that
someone has contributed to my site of any interest whatsoever to the folks
in the Archives? I can understand the purpose of having Archives but I
refuse to make my website a cyber highway to the Archives. When people visit
my website I want it to be their favorite place for research. This is
similar to someone visiting me in my home. I make them welcome and I help
them with problems and provide what they are looking for if I can. That is
really what the GAGenWeb was about when the project first started. We all
had this dream of making genealogy available for free to everyone. That was
a very noble and rewarding goal and that should be the goal right now. It is
my goal and I won't make my website a series of hyperlinks to the Archives.
I have a personal interest in my county and I think almost all the other
CC's do as well. This is like inviting your neighbor for coffee and sending
her to Starbucks. Why am I bringing this up? Because it seems like every
person who has a problem with the GAGenWeb is with the archives and it seems
like almost every problem that is aired endlessly and continuously has
something to do with what is supposed to go in the archives.
6.) What does this mean? Does this mean that we can vote any way we choose
but the USGenWeb will be deciding who runs Georgia? I think that is what it
means, y'all!
In the event that the results of this motion
> are not known by 11:59 p.m. May 31, 2004, The USGenWeb
Elections
> Committee is directed to place a "hold" on any nomination received for
> any of the persons named in this motion, pending the results of the
> motion. If the motion passes, those named will be considered to have
> been suspended from membership as of the date this motion was made. If
> the motion fails, any such nomination may proceed normally.
7.) Who do you think you are kidding? Do you really think we can't think for
ourselves and haven't followed the trials and tribulations in the GAGenWeb
enough to know who the good guys are and who the people are who only wish
ill for this project? Believe me, as members of GAGenWeb and a member of
GAGen mailing list for all this time, we know a lot more about the handful
of discontented people than we ever wanted or needed to know. The fact that
they have managed to sway people in their favor is an abomination and a
crime.
8.) Who will fight for us, the people who love the GAGenWeb and want to work
on our webpages so that people can do their family research? This sounds
trite but we provide a valuable service for a lot of people and it is a
shame that our efforts are minimized by a few people who are clamoring for
personal power and not for the good of the project as a whole.
9.) Who will keep our goal of providing free genealogy research data strong
and within our reach if we are not represented in the USGenWeb? Who is
taking care of Georgia?
10.) When the GAGenWeb first started genealogy had not yet become the big
money making business that it is today. Who will keep our project from being
taken over by the people who want to sell information on a subscription
basis? If that happens who will help the people who can't afford to pay?
Right now that is the GAGenWeb's job and it is a great one.
This is America and this is what I think and these are the questions I
want someone who knows to answer.
God Bless Us All!
Janet Moore

Some predicted this is what the NC and AB would do in the event Tim turned
over the domain. What they are doing is I have been told illegal and against
the USGenWeb Bylaws. But the NC and some members of the AB feel they are
above any Bylaws.
No it isn't right and if it is allowed to happen it will continue with
others states and other SCs being attacked by the NC and the AB.
