I agree with Linda and Wayne's comments about soft pedaling things -- after
all we are volunteers!

If you've not read these -- please do so....
Here's my comments:
1) Yes, remove the "bold" on ASSIST and remove completely the "not
police". (We can all understand that, but we don't need to state it.)
"To assist the CC's in the Region..." (Linda's
comments) I
no longer see the need to pronounce the assist and include not "police" in
this sentence. I feel as if we've moved beyond this issue.
With the regional assistants being true assistants with no "power" to wield
now I think we'd be okay without bringing in that wording.
2)
5. R.A. role
Decision Making:
I understand where the committe was coming from on this one.
(at one time the RC/RA was a Council)
How about
"To encourage CC's to actively participate in all matters pertaining to the
GAGenWeb and the USGenWeb projects."
My reason behind this, is to use the RA as a contact person to keep all CCs
more aware of what is going on in the national and state project.
3)
Question: Does a CC have to do the HTML for their site? Couldn't they work
with someone who is willing to do this for them?
"Under Appointment of Coordinators -
Knowledge of building
and maintaining web pages is not a prerequisite
if needed, new coordinators may receive assistance in learning the
process from members of the GAGenWeb Support Team. New coordinators will be
expected to become proficient in handling web pages within three months
after being appointed."
==============================
Since I think being the "webmaster" is not as important as the other
criteria listed right above this: willingness to maintain, help
researchers, etc. We have had the policy that a CC could have someone else
actually do the HTML for their sites, and I believe this has worked well.
While this may not have been made public knowledge, I think the important
thing is that those counties are very active.
"handling the Web site" doesn't necessarily mean doing the HTML for it. To
me it means, providing ideas and materials for the site. The "webmaster"
might be someone that merely "does" the pages for the CC.
Having said this, I think the 3 months is fine for the CC to get on top of
things and "run the site" --- meaning, working with someone else to upload,
etc.
If we allow more time, then essentially this county page is a "dead site"
for 3 months.
I guess I see no real value in being a wonderful webmaster, if you are
missing the essential ingredient of helping researchers, and gathering
materials for the county.
