Thanks, Sylvia, and to all of our most excellent CCs for your help
and support and the jobs you do.
And, thanks to Nola, Everette and Martha for their help with our
election. (I will unsub you from the list now.)
I do have a couple of goals for the coming two years.
Of course, the most important goal of the project is producing vital,
relevant, data-filled Web sites and doing everything we can to help
researchers in their quests. In order to do that, we need to get and
keep great CCs and provide them with a positive, supportive
atmosphere in which to work.
I would love to see all of our counties adopted. I know this is on
Ed's agenda, too, and he has been working hard to recruit good
volunteers. We are 90 percent adopted, which is remarkable.
Another goal of mine is to provide researchers with some basic
information on researching in Georgia. Of course, we can't provide a
complete on-line genealogy course, but we certainly could provide
some guidance that would answer those FAQs we all get every day. We
address some of these issues on our county sites, but I believe
providing *statewide* information linked to the main GAGenWeb page
would benefit researchers and volunteers. I believe that, if
researchers take advantage of this feature, they will be better
prepared to take full advantage of our county sites.
Every state does this, some better than others, and I certainly have
not looked at every state site. Alabama, Arizona and Arkansas do a
pretty good job. Take a look, and see what you think.
We don't need to re-invent the wheel here. It is my experience that
much of the information researchers are looking for is on the
Internet; they just need help finding it. Thus, links to point them
in the right direction would be sufficient, perhaps with a bit of
narrative here and there to tie it all together.
If we all pool our resources, I believe we can get this done without
too much strain on any one person. To get the ball rolling, every CC
could send me some statewide links they have found to be helpful.
Don't forget to include links pertaining to ethnic research in
Georgia, as well as other specific topics like wars and time periods.
Please send these to me privately, so we don't clog up the mailing list.
I'll get them organized into categories, and perhaps our
Techno-Geniuses can get some pages built.
What do you think?

who will be our ASC again!?
I'd like to hear their goals for GAGenWeb for this term -- and learn what we
can do to help them achieve these goals.
