Good morning;
My name is Trish Elliott-Kashima. I am currently the Assistant State
Coordinator for GAGenWeb and I am running for State Coordinator in this
election.
My experience? I have been the CC for Whitfield County GAGenWeb for about 8
years, Marion County GAGenWeb for 7 years and took on Talbot County
GAGenWeb more than a year and a half ago. I am also the temporary CC for
10 other GAGenWeb counties that are up for adoption. I am our regional CC
Rep to the Advisory Board and SC for Hawaii, CC for Hawaii County.
More about me: I became a widow 14 months ago and it did take me almost a
full year to grieve - and I feel more like myself now. Thankful for my
granddaughter born ten months ago and so glad she lives here in TN so I can
babysit when needed. My four other grandchildren are on the west coast. I
work full time from home as a medical coder for several specialties. I
started in genealogy 49 years ago and it quickly became an obsession as it
is for many of us who are CCs. I spent much of my early years learning
"how to", and then started to give back to the genealogy community by
responding to random queries on various boards. Eventually I wanted to
make more of a widespread impact and took on CC of Whitfield County with
help from Ed Gordon and Linda Blum-Barton. It just blossomed from there.
My hobbies are genealogy, American and European history, sewing, reading,
listening to music, heirloom vegetable and flower gardening. I live in the
southern part of middle Tennessee about 45 minutes from the Alabama
boarder.
I would like to see our state be more active. We have so many counties for
adoption and I would like to see them filled by new volunteers (and some
old ones if any of you want to take on another county!). I envision a
solid support base of those who can help newcomers with software and web
applications. Yes, that takes time but not everyone knows how to create a
website - I sure didn't. Yes there is some general apathy across some of
USGenWeb - but I want us to get stronger, better and I believe we can!
Hope I can count on your vote. If you have questions for me - please email
me at pkashima(a)gmail.com.
