Subject: [STATE-COORD] Issue of GenWeb trademark
I will be having the AB reps review the states and counties in their regions
to determine if the depiction of our Project name and the State names and
state logos are correct.
Our Project is not GenWeb. It is The USGenWeb Project.
It also is not IN GenWeb, for example.
Any use of GenWeb in writing or on a logo that does not include the two
letter government indicator for the state immediately connected to GenWeb is
inappropriate and an infringement on someone else's trademark.
For example, Hawaii's logo had their two letter state indicator separate
from GenWeb. They have graciously corrected that. All counties in Hawaii
should have the appropriate logo affixed to their counties.
Please review your state logo to determine that it is in compliance with our
Bylaws and our appropriate trademark. Also you will need to review with your
coordinators that they have the appropriate state logo on their sites and
that any use of GenWeb written separately whether in connection with US or
the state indicator is appropriately corrected.
AB members will be requested to begin their review of their states within
the next 2-3 weeks and will be advising me as well as the leadership in each
state.
With the 20th anniversary coming up and to be celebrated at the 2016 NGS
Conference in Fort Lauderdale, it will be much appreciated.
Thank you so much for your assistance in getting this accomplished.
