Hi Everyone,
This is being sent to multiple lists to help get the word out and allow as
many as possible to benefit. For those interested, the temporary list for
census look-up help is: census-chat(a)rootsweb.com
The original intent of the "Census-Chat" list was to give everyone that
wanted, a place to discuss "anything" about census research, problems,
successes, or whatever, as long as it was clean, wholesome and civil.
Those of you who have been on the list for a long time may have noticed a
lot of postings lately and here is the reason. A few weeks ago someone
hacked into our board server and somehow completely deleted the contents of
our "Census Look-up Board" postings. It is in the process of being repaired
and restored to a level where that cannot happen again.
In the mean time we wanted to have a place where people could still get help
so we set up a new landing page so anyone trying to get to the old Census
Look-up Board,
http://www.us-census.org/webbbs/lookups/ is now being
directed to join this list so they can still get help with census look-ups.
(Thank you Connie!) Since this is an "open" chat list, anyone can join and
they can talk about anything census.
We are not sure of the time line for the repairs to the servers so we hope
this list is a satisfactory, albiet temporary fix to the problem.
Anyone needing a census look up, that may not have immediate access to all
census listings, are welcome to post their census look-up needs to this list
and hopefully someone will be able to help you. Please provide as much
information as you have about the subject of your request, (Names, dates,
state, county, years, etc) so as to minimize the time and effort of
searching and to minimize the need for our volunteer researchers to repost
the asking for more information.
Thank you for your patience,
Ron Eason
