Sure. The USGW currently essentially has two census projects, which have
come to be called Census I [under the Archives Project] and Census II
[under Kay Mason and operating independently of the Archive Project].
There has been discussion for some months about how to deal with this
unfortunate and confusing situation.
The below motion proposes to take all the census data in Census II, which
is currently stored in directories outside the Archives Project file
structure [and thus outside Rootsweb's search engine for the Archives] and
place it in the Archives Project's directories for Census I. Further, it
would then purge the Census II project directories entirely and turn over
the passwords for the accounts to Census I, thus effectively blocking all
Census II file managers from the directories.
The motion is silent on what would then become of the Census II file
managers. Presumably they would be welcome to continue as file managers
in Census I, but since Census I has been recruiting its own file managers
for some months now, I don't know how this situation would be resolved.
Also, I imagine this move with engender some anger on the part of the
Census II file managers, and since Census II essentially "revolted" from
Census I, there could also be some lingering distrust on the part of
Census I file managers toward Census II.
