Hello Everyone,
We have been very, very busy on many projects here at our Union Co.,
GAGenWeb site.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/
So, I thought I'd let everyone know what's new.
1. 1834 State Census - we now have an alphabetized version as well as
the original, by household, version.
2. 1840 Federal Census - we now have an alphabetized version as well as
the original, by household, version.
3. 1850 Federal Census - an index has been completed and will uploaded
shortly. I have about 75% completed an expanded version of this
census. It shows marriages, where they may have or did come from, and
where they went including HH#s of subsequent Union & Fannin Co. censuses
& other spellings that were used. I hope to have this uploaded by
November. This has been an awesome, seemly never-ending project...but I
think it will help us all to have this extra info.
4. 1860 Federal Census - we are working on an index.....and, I have
discovered that a few households appear to be missing when compared to
the GA Census Index. I'll be looking into this further as time
permits...
5. 1870 Federal Census - no changes.
6. 1880 Federal Census - is now completed [as best we can] thanks to
Rosemary Harbin.
GREAT JOB!!! Now that we have all districts, we'll start on an index.
7. 1900 Federal Census - is coming right along. THANK YOU....Jan
Pieroni. GREAT JOB!!!
8. 1910 Federal Census - we now have a volunteer, Michelle, who is just
now beginning to work on this project. THANK YOU!!!!
9. 1920 Federal Census - we need a volunteer. Rosemary Harbin has some
info that may help with this transcription. Let me know if you would
like to help us out with this census.....
10. Tombstone Transcription Database.....has been drastically
edited/enhanced as a result of the 1850 census project. During this
project, our tombstone data files have NOT been uploaded every Friday
for about the last 6 weeks, as I have wanted to double check everything
before uploading that information. These new files will be uploaded at
the same time as the 1850 enhanced version of this census is also
uploaded by November.
11. Marriages thru 1897 were published in 1992 by Viola Jones. They
are in alphabetical order so unless someone else transcribes them from
the public records again, we cannot published them in alphabetical order
at our website as it would violate her copyright. However, what info I
have in my database of marriages & those found in the databases of
ancestry.com, I have included in our 1850 enhanced census project...as
well as a few of them in our tombstone database. Don't forget that we
do have "Early Marriages" at our website that came from an
non-copyrighted source.
12. Reminder....any queries/responses posted to a GenConnect board
other than the query board [data boards] are automatically deleted and
you are not notified. This has been GenConnect's rules since the
beginning ....so.... Please, everyone, let's try to be careful & double
check where you are before posting to these boards. Thanks!!
13. Obituaries - as some of you may know, I am trying to key in obits
from the North Georgia News. I receive this newspaper weekly....but I'm
about 2 months behind in posting these. Hopefully, I will get caught up
by the end of the year. Thanks for your patience.
The Union Co. Courthouse does have the North Georgia News back to the
late 60's. Anyone out there that can go to the courthouse, photocopy
these older obits and post them on-line to our obits board, please let
me know.
14. Union Co. in the Civil War - you'll find a new link that was added
this week.
15. Personal Websites - you'll find a few new URLs of fellow
researchers who have Union Co. roots.
16. I understand that RootsWeb, our website host, is now accepting
gedcoms. I'll see what I can find out further about this and let you
know....
I think that's it......
Thanks again to everyone who has volunteered their time to help make
Union Co. GAGenWeb one of the most informative websites in all of the
USGenWeb!!!
Warm regards,
CAT
