GADATA Mailing List:
Submit Your Genealogical Data!!
The GADATA mailing list was created on Oct. 18, 1999 for the purpose
of making it easier for anyone to post Georgia genealogical source
materials online, for eventual inclusion into the Georgia USGenWeb
Archives.
These source materials include:
* Bible Records
* Biographies
* Cemetery Lists
* Census Transcriptions
* Civil War Rosters
* Death Certificates
* Deeds
* Family Histories
* Marriage Records
* Obituaries
* Wills
* etc.
Now, there are a few simple rules that must be followed regarding
posting. They are:
* The subject of the email needs to have...
+ the GEORGIA COUNTY first
+ the TYPE OF FILE (bio, deed, obit, will, etc.) second
+ the SURNAME of the person[s] involved (if it applies) last
* The email itself absolutely cannot contain**
+ QUERIES!
+ DISCUSSION!
+ CHAIN LETTERS!
+ FILE ATTACHMENTS!
The address is GADATA-L(a)rootsweb.com. All posts should be sent to that
address only. If you would like to post, as well as receive every
post, you must subscribe to either the LADATA-L or LADATA-D list.
These two differ, in that:
* LADATA-L is the 'list mode'. In this mode, you will recieve every
post that goes to the list.
* LADATA-D is the 'digest mode'. In this mode, you will recieve a
single email containing all of the posts from a 48 hour period.
This is especially good if your ISP charges a fee for every email.
Only subscribers may post. To subscribe to LADATA-L; send an email to
LADATA-L-request(a)rootsweb.com. The subject line will be ignored, and
the body of the email must contain the word 'subscribe' only. To
unsubscribe, the same applies, but email the word 'unsubscribe'.
To subscribe or unsubscribe from LADATA-D, follow the above procedure
as well; but send this email to LADATA-D-request(a)rootsweb.com.
Please be sure to follow all of the rules and guidelines that you have
seen on this page. It really makes everything work better for all of
us. Remember, too, that the only address to post anything to is
GADATA-L(a)rootsweb.com. Digest subscribers should post here, as well.
You do not have to subscribe to this list in order to donate documents
to the archives. You can send your files to Gerelyn Reaves,
GERELYN222(a)aol.com or to me at dmorgan(a)efn.org. There is a help file
at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/contrib.htm
and the guidelines of the USGenWeb Archives are at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/timetodo.htm
which has some valuable tips as well. And you can send files to us
as attachments, just not to the maii list.
The Rootsweb server is down as I am sure everybody knows by now, and
the archives uploads for the past month are temporarily off line.
Once the new server is back, all the updates should be there. This
happened a few weeks ago, and everything was there when they got it
back online. Rootsweb is very good about backups.
Thanks to Carla for turning over such great pages to us! I always knew
it would take two or three folks to take her place, maybe more.
Thanks,
David
