Here's the explanation as to why GAGenWeb CANNOT use the State Seal of
Georgia on webpages.
Thanks Virginia for locating this memo.

While looking for something else, I finally found this official document.
Could you put it somewhere and then LINK to it. Maybe even send it to the
CC list for their information AGAIN! (If they're like me, they probably
have forgotten about what it originally said)
I'm busy working with some CC's....sorry I've not gotten back with you.
Received the following yesterday, 6/5/97, from the Office of Public Library
Services, State of Geogia. Thought y'all might be interested.
Below is the text of a memo the Office of Public Library Services
received
on April 11, 1997 from the Office of the Governor. Those of you hosting
web servers should be aware of restrictions on the use of the Ga state
seal.

STATE OF GEORGIA - OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - Atlanta 30334-0900
Zell Miller, Governor
Mark H. Cohen, Executive Counsel
_MEMORANDUM_
To: All Department Heads
From: Mark H. Cohen, Executive Counsel
Date: April 9, 1997
Re: Use and Display of the Georgia State Seal on the Internet or World
Wide Web
As many of you are aware, various state agencies now have sites on the
Internet or World Wide Web. Many of these agencies use the Great Seal of
the State of Georgia in some manner on their sites.
In light of the fact that state law greatly restricts the use of the Great
Seal, see, e.g., O.C.G.A. && 50-3-8, 50-3-9, 50-3-11, and 50-3-31, we are
concerned that someone may try to copy the State Seal off an Internet or
Web site and use it for improper or unauthorized purposes. Accordingly, we
ask that the following language be added at any Internet or Web site where
the State Seal is displayed.
"Use and display of the Seal of the Great State of Georgia is restricted by
law, and may be used only with the express written permission from the
State of Georgia as authorized by the Governor."
I appreciate your cooperation in this manner. Please contact me at
404-651-7714 if you have further questions or comments.
