CLARKE CO. (ATHENS), GA, NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS, 1826-1829, Vol. 2.
This is a continuation of abstracts for Athens, GA newspapers which includes
classified and legal notices, marriage and death notices, lists of letters
remaining in the post offices (for Athens, Jefferson, Gainesville and
Watkinsville), complete listing of names drawn in the 1827 Land Lottery for
Clarke, Jackson, Gwinnett, Habersham and Hall counties, and many other
miscellaneous articles with genealogical content.
The primary counties included in the abstracts were: Clarke, Jackson,
Oglethorpe, Madison, Franklin, Habersham, Hall and Gwinnett.
Newspapers were: "Columbian Centinel" with scattered issues in 1826, and
"The
Athenian" from January 1827 thru December 1829 (all issues were included).
There are 3 indexes: 1) Surname Index, 2) Slave Index with names of their
owners; and 3) Place/ Subject Index.
The book is hardback, 8-1/2 x 11", 391 pages, and is a perfect match for the
first volume which covered abstracts from 1808 to 1820. Price - $36.00, plus
$4.00 S&H (whether one or more volumes), and GA residents are to add 6% tax.
