A Site Index of Sanborn Maps for Georgia lists all the
Sanborn maps held by the Map Collection. All the
Sanborn maps published for Georgia towns during the period 1880-1935 are
held by the Map Collection.
Microfilm copies of Sanborn maps for Georgia in the 1935-1985 period are
also held by the Collection. These
materials are kept in closed stack areas so please ask the Map Room
Reference Desk staff for help with the
Sanborn maps. Some general information sources for Sanborn Fire Insurance
Maps are described below after
the Georgia section. The Map Collection does not have Sanborn maps for
areas outside of Georgia.
Maps can show:
Building material (adobe, brick, frame, etc.)
Height or number of stories
Doors, windows, chimneys, elevators
Address and lot lines
Use (dwelling, hotel, church, etc.)
Street widths, water pipes, hydrants, and cisterns
You can scroll down the page to see all the towns in Georgia which have a
Sanborn map.
I was checking on Taylor County and found Butler and Reynolds for the year
1927 listed.
If anyone gets a chance to actually look at these maps maybe you can share
with us what you found. Evidently they didn't list the owners of the
homes, etc.
