CAT & ALL:
I have received a request from someone that has a mailing list that I have
boards to requesting they be turned on and they are not happy that I am not
complying. I have two problems with turning them on (1) Inappropriate
postings 2) I am not sure via copy right standards that these should be
forwarded without permission from the poster. Does anyone know if there is
something on RW that states these will be posted? I tried to reach a couple
of my boards and found nothing on them stating such.

Subject: Re: [GAGEN-L] Changing your boards GC-Gateway
Hi All......
Thought of something else about this yesterday. It's just food for
thought....
CC's who are subbed to their county email list AND who also manage the
boards,
will start receiving 2 messages about each post.
Researchers who 'subscribed' at the bottom of the query board for email
notification of every query AND who are also subbed to that county's email
list
will start getting duplications. Their best alternative is to go to
the
Query
board and 'unsub' themselves from the Query Board's
notifications.
I debated, yet decided not to use the gateway on the 6 data boards.
[Wills,
Deeds, Obits, etc.] Reason, too many folks are still posting
inappropriate
responses. According to GenConnect rules, those are to be deleted without
notification. It was my understanding that these 'data' boards are to be
kept
clean of junk posts. All them clearly say, No Queries...but folks
won't
read.
I also thought that a query posted at GenConnect [which is on RootsWeb
servers]
and then sending the same message to the RootsWeb email list [on yet
another
RootsWeb server that's archived] is causing duplications and
taking up
valuable
'free' space. Is the benefit truly cost effective? Heaven
knows....I'm
just a
little old CC running around in the mountains of North
GA....<BG>
I have turned on my 2 query boards [Fannin & Union Cos.] and sent a
message to
each email list about this new benefit and posted an announcement
about
this on
each query board. Thought we'd try it out and see how everyone
liked
it.....
Hope everyone has had a nice weekend,
Warm regards,
CAT
