In the past I had some training in Search Engine Optimization. One way to
improve the position of your website in search engine results is to have
relevant "link exchanges" between your site and other sites. Just random
links for the sake of linking (links of no relevance to your site) actually
can get you "blacklisted" or at the very least can cause your site to appear
further down in the search results.
Anyway I'm sure that many of you are aware of this--I just wanted to mention
it because after assessing the site that Mr. Nichols represented I decided
that it was worth the link exchange. Even if the site that he represents is
not really anything more than a lot of links, the links themselves are
relevant to genealogy research. The N2genealogy site shows up pretty high in
the search engine results--whoever set up the structure of their site knew
what they were doing when it comes to Search Engine Optimization.

I am inclined to agree, Debra, although I did not know such programs
existed until Ed told me. Of course, anyone is free to link to
whatever s/he believes is of value to researchers. There was too much
commercialism for my taste.
