There may have been a coroner's inquest which may be her best option. I
just transcribed a coroner's inquest in Montana and it gave quite a bit of
info. Also one for my husband's grandfather in Hawaii who died
mysteriously. Pretty informative with details, who the witnesses were,
what they saw, etc.
Newspapers are a great idea. It's possible that there was a trial of the
perpetrator since he was murdered so I would check court records. And
newspaper accounts of the trial may be of help. County clerk may have other
ideas since they know what is available.

Thanks for Your help!!
Hi there,
I
am visiting Georgia soon and am hoping you can help me with some
advice. My grandfather was murdered in 1940 in Quitman County (I know
you haven't adopted Quitman, but was hoping since you are in close
proximity you could offer advice.) ; I have his death certificate which
clearly states he was murdered, but I am interested in knowing the
official version of the circumstances. ( I have the family version,
what little there is). Would I go to the County Courthouse to see if
there were any charges filed, or to the library to look at old
newspapers? ( I haven't been able to find any newspaper resource
available online).
If you have time, thank you in advance for pointing me in the right
direction.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Jenkins Davis
(grandfather was William Howard Jenkins).
