Hi, Linda. I am having massive issues with Comcast xfinity email, and can only use it
from my smart phone.
It is a systemic issue, and after almost three months, Comcast has not located the code
error in their program.
Am I subscribed to the GAGenweb list with a secondary email address -
gwinnett(a)patsabin.com, or may I add one?
It is tedious on this little keyboard.
Thanks,
Pat Sabin

Subject: BIZ _ BIZ _ Very Important!
To all GAGenWeb Members - Please read!
Due to issues we have run into with websites being abandoned with no notice
from county coordinators, we feel we need to make some changes to our
procedures in order to be able to retrieve and save the data from these
sites for the project.
Additionally, we aren’t being overrun with volunteers to adopt county sites
and even when we do have someone with interest in adopting a site, they
rarely have experience with building websites and we don’t really have
anyone with the time to teach people how to do that so we would like to
change the part of our procedures that limits a CC to having 3 sites, with
some restrictions on how that can be done.
Please read the portions of our Bylaws/Procedures that would be revised by
this and the proposed changes.
Bylaws - Article 3: Membership
Membership in The GAGenWeb Project is granted to County Coordinators. The
State Coordinator (SC) shall appoint County Coordinators as described in the
GAGenWeb Policies and Procedures (P&P).
Each County shall have no more than two (2) Coordinators. A person may be a
Coordinator for no more than three (3) sites. A County Coordinator may
appoint additional assistants if desired. A County Coordinator may be
removed for cause as described in the GAGenWeb Policies and Procedures
(P&P).
Each County Coordinator shall have one vote in GAGenWeb elections,
regardless of the number of counties they coordinate. Assistants appointed
by a Coordinator are not considered members and thus shall not vote in
GAGenWeb elections
For above Article 3, we propose removing the second sentence in the second
paragraph and adding the following to this Article:
In most cases, a person will be limited to hosting 3 sites but if someone
wants to adopt more than 3 counties, they will have to meet the following
criteria:
1. Having been a member in good standing for at least 2 years.
2. Having consistently answered roll calls and been responsive to other
communication from State and Assistant State Coordinators.
3. Have shown a consistent practice of keeping the sites they already have
up to date with links checked and shown a willingness to add data to the
sites.
The decision to allow a CC to adopt more than 3 counties at one time will be
up to the SC and ASC.
Next Item - Item 2 of our Policies & Procedures -
2) Removal of Coordinators
A county coordinator may be removed for failing to uphold his/her
responsibilities. The coordinator shall have a four-month probation period
to comply with requirements, after which, if the situation is not corrected,
the coordinator will be dismissed and his/her counties will be put up for
adoption. The state coordinator has the authority to extend the probation
period to allow for mitigating circumstances.
In the instance of a probationary period, the SC will contact the CC three
times:
at the beginning of the probationary period, stating the reason for the
probation;
again in the middle of the period (at 2 months); and
again one week before the conclusion of the probationary period. A copy of
the SC’s communications will be cc’ed to the grievance committee [or
chairperson of the grievance committee?].
Due to the fact that GAGenWeb never formed a grievance committee, we need to
change the last line to read as follows:
A copy of the SC’s communications will be cc’ed to the ASC.
And make the following addition to this procedure -
In cases where the site appears to have been abandoned and the CC has not
been responding to roll call for a year and doesn’t respond to
correspondence regarding the probationary period within a
month, the SC/ASC can make a determination regarding putting the website up
for adoption and retrieving the data to move forward for researchers with a
functioning website and a responsive contact.
Please feel free to ask questions and discuss on the mailing list. We'll
leave seven days for discussion and then call for a vote on these revisions.
A majority of members voting will decide whether or not we make these
changes.
Thank you,
Linda Blum-Barton
