I ran across some fascinating figures about the 1790 Georgia census.
Two of the counties were spelled differently then than now:
Glyn - Glynn; Wilks - Wilkes.
The state was divided into three sections Lower, Middle and Upper
for a total of 11 counties.
The Lower section consisted of Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glyn and Liberty.
The Middle section consisted of Burke, Richmond and Washington.
The Upper section consisted of Franklin, Greene and Wilks.
The counts in the data I reviewed were divided into 5 catergories:
Males 16 and over, Males under 16, Females, All other Free Persons, Slaves.
The data below will be in that order, with a Total at the end.
Camden - 81 - 44 - 96 - 14 - 70 = 305
Chatham - 846 - 480 - 1130 - 112 - 8201 = 10769
Effingham - 627 - 336 - 711 - 0 - 750 = 2424
Glyn - 70 - 36 - 87 - 5 - 215 = 413
Liberty - 426 - 264 - 613 - 27 - 4025 = 5355
Burke - 1808 - 1841 - 3415 - 11 - 2392 = 9467
Richmond - 1894 - 1925 - 3343 - 39 - 4116 = 11317
Washington - 947 - 1024 - 1885 - 2 - 694 = 4552
Franklin - 225 - 243 - 417 - 0 - 156 = 1041
Greene - 1027 - 1111 - 1882 - 8 - 1377 = 5405
Wilks - 5152 - 6740 - 12160 - 180 - 7268 = 31500
Slaves were a large portion of several of the counties. In Chatham County
for instance the ratio was 3.2 slaves to each free person.
