Hi Tonya,
I use
beseen.com as the search engines on all my gen sites. You'll find
their link on:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/
So far, I like it just fine. It was pretty easy to use as well.
You can set it up so that it automatically re-spiders your site weekly [I
used Thurs] so folks doing research on weekends get the lastest editions to
the site. You can also tell the spider which pages not to search as well as
add off-site webpages, such as gagenweb archived files or civil war rosters.
Choose the standard format they offer for what the search results webpage
will look like. They offer several search box styles and even a text link
format. The search boxes can be color-coordinated to match the colors of
your main page.
Good luck!!!

Subject: [GAGEN] Search Engine.
Tonya,
I'm hoping that someone also responds about Search Engines....but here's
what I know right now.
You can't add a new site to the Rootsweb Search Engine....and the last I
heard they didn't know when this problem would be corrected. I don't know
if the pages that were previously done on the Rootsweb Search Engines are
being updated at this point either. If anyone can shed more light on
this,
please do.
In the meantime, I've used two free places. I really can't say which is
best...but you might experiment yourself.

I would love to hear of some other ways to do Searches, so I look forward
to some ideas from those of you who are much more adapt at web pages than
I
am.
