I'm sure you've probably all heard about or actually
encountered the
new virus that is everywhere.
the new Sircam Virus:

Be very, very careful about opening up any attachments, as their
subjects are quite tricky, i.e. "church minutes", "letter from
David",
"information you needed"
Inside it always starts off with something like this one:
=======
Hi! How are you?
I send you this file in order to have your advice
See you later. Thanks
Attachment Converted: "A:\MemoBlan.pif"

This is the worst virus I've seen this year.
On Saturday I got it 12 times, yesterday about 15 times. Since I work
with potential problems such as this on a daily basis, I recognized the
creature without it 'getting' me and was able to delete it.
Please visit this site for info on cleaning your computer:
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/announce.html#virus
or this site:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html
The symantec site goes through about 9 pages telling you which registry
settings to look for, if you have activated the virus. Another thing that
is bad about this particular creature is that it is network aware - meaning
it can spread through a network - real bad news for network managers.
Supposedly this worm has an activation date of October 16th - so we may not
know the full extent of the damage until then.
Another thing you might consider - is not using Microsoft's Outlook Express
as your email client as it is so virus prone. Several other email clients
exist such as Eudora or Pegasus.
