Tim
My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for a cruise to Alaska for our 50th
Wedding Anniversary. Since there is so much traffic on the GAGen-L list I
am going to unsubscribe. If there is anything of importance that I need to
know, please save the messages for me. Since I am a File Manager and not a
CC there probably won't be anything but I just wanted you to know.
Thanks!

I post all my queries manually, copy/paste from a CGI/mail merge form that
visitors fill out on my county sites. I also have all the GC boards for
about
a 1/3 of the counties I maintain - on queries I copy/paste the
queries
from
the
GC boards to my county's query pages. On all queries I send a note to the
submitter letting them know their query has been posted and where they may
view
it.
Utilizing both my system and the GC boards in parallel, I find that
visitors
can select which query system or both query systems if they so wish
to
place
and/or view queries.
In the early days of the Project we did have a national query system where
all queries
were funneled to each county from a central point. I don't recall the
exact details
as to why it was discontinued other than perhaps the volume became too
great for one
central point to handle. Whatever the cause of that discontinuance, it
was
then left
to the CCs to figure out for themselves how best to acquire queries for
their sites
and how to maintain them. Perhaps some of the other old-timers, in
USGenWeb terms,
can shed further light on this?
