Someone just sent me a will for the Georgia Archives and it simply
says,
"Province of Georgia".
Formerly of Amherst County,VA
Will of Robert Davis of Georgia
Adams County (Natchez) Mississippi
.Book __, Pages 237 - 239
September 5, 1771
Virginia,
I would assume that this will is recorded in the Adams County, Mississippi
book ? pp 237-239. What date was it recorded?
http://www.tngenweb.org/maps/ms-terr.html
Territory of Mississippi was established 7 May 1798
Adams Co was formed in 1799 from the Natchez District.
Mississippi entered the Union on December 10, 1817.
This record would have had to be transferred - rerecorded - from somewhere
else or recorded very late.
Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776.
The first Georgia Counties were formed Feb. 5, 1777.
The archives should probably have a section to cover colonial Georgia.
