Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I was updating the Forsyth page and I seem to have the wrong URL for
Cherokee.County.
http://www.cherokeecountyga.org/ is what I have.

Subject: [GAGEN] Farewell!
To all my old friends, newer friends and those who I haven't had the
pleasure of working with, it is with regret I leave you and the The GAGenWeb
Project.
To all the newer folks.... (and especially to Cheryl Chasin for
volunteering to take over Barrow County's site) you have no idea how great you have
it! When I came into this project it was growing, building and positive.
That quickly changed and became a hotbed of dictators and pseudo-leaders who
made our lives miserable. There were at least 50 emails a day from/about
these people and the project lost a lot of good people because of a rotten
few. But! A group of us stood up and spoke the truth - loudly. And that
is why this project has (again) become the productive, positive
genealogical well for volunteers and researchers alike.
To my fellow coordinators I have had the JOY of working with for the last
years (I can't even remember how many!) Thank you! Thank you for sharing
your knowledge, for taking me under your wing when I had my first county,
for your friendship and especially for the great ride. The experience we
all shared of taking the Project back from the self-righteous people who
used it for their own benefit and gain was one of the biggest rushes of my
life. In fact, what a great story that would be on the written page....
although, no one would ever believe the evil and manipulations that took place
in a genealogy project.... perhaps corporate espionage - but never little
ole' people in genealogy! :()
I will return! But life calls right now. I am finally in Asheville NC
but work 2 hours away and feel I don't have the time/energy to give to the
Project what it deserves. Cheryl graciously stepped up to the plate and will
do a super job with Barrow County. Thank you, Cheryl.
Linda is a great leader and only has the best interest of the Project in
her heart/mind. I leave with the peace of knowing all of you and The
GAGenWeb Project are in good hands.
Don't be strangers! Be good to each other! Keep up the great work!
Until we meet again....

MK,
Ah, yes, the stories we could tell...
For those of you who did not live through those times, MK is not
exaggerating. It was a unforgettable ride.
I hatehatehate that you are leaving us. You are one of the
courageous, straight-shooters who stood up for the project when it
desperately needed good people.
I do hope you will re-join us one day. In the meantime, best wishes,
my friend... and thanks.

The Grievance Committee is looking for new volunteers. I tried to find out
which seats are open (see below, the Committee has specific positions
required) but I didn't get a clear answer so if you are interested in
volunteering, I would suggest contacting John Quigley to see if you qualify
for the seats that are open.

Subject: Need for new members
The Grievance Committee is in need of new members, we are short one member,
and one other member is staying on until a replacement can be found for her.
If accepted you will serve for 2 years, until August 2013.
Membership:
The Grievance Committee shall consist of seven members of The USGenWeb
Project in good standing. The panel must include a State Coordinator and a
member of the Special projects and three County Coordinators/Local
Coordinators who have not served as State Coordinator or in a national level
position within the last three years. The National Coordinator is an ex
officio member of the Grievance Committee and is not eligible for assignment
as the committee member overseeing an accepted grievance. In the event that
a member of the Grievance Committee is one of the parties involved in the
dispute or has a personal interest in the dispute, that Committee Member
shall retire from involvement with any aspect of that grievance.
In the event that a Grievance Committee member changes positions in the
USGenWeb Project during their term, they may remain as a representative of
the position for which they were appointed until the end of their term. This
does not apply in the case of the committee member's election to the
USGenWeb Advisory Board, at which time they would be required to resign and
a new representative appointed after a call for volunteers from within the
project to fill the seat.
Qualifications:
Volunteers for the Grievance Committee will be required to meet certain
minimum requirements for service.
Volunteers must have a minimum of one year's continuous service as a Member
in Good Standing of either a State Project or a recognized Special Project
of the USGenWeb Project.
Volunteers may not have been a party in a grievance for a minimum of two (2)
years prior to volunteering for the Grievance Committee nor be currently
involved in a grievance.
Future vacancies within the Grievance Committee will be filled by USGenWeb
Project members in the following manner: The Chair will solicit volunteers
for the position, and post their qualifications for comment. Volunteers will
be chosen by a vote of Grievance Committee members, and presented to the
Advisory Board for approval.
Future appointments as Chair will be by vote of the Grievance Committee
members. Elections will be for a two-year term.
The following is not a requirement:
It is also helpful if you have some knowledge of Mediation procedures. You
will of course learn as you work on the committee, but some knowledge is a
good thing.
Interested individuals should contact the Grievance Committee Chair, John
Quigley at jquigley2(a)gmail.com, providing the required information to be
considered for the position.
