Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
If any of you CCs have counties in other SEMA states, please help us pass
the word around about what good candidates Linda Barton and Kemis Massey are.
If you didn't get your password, let us know so it can be sent to you again.
And of course, please if you haven't voted yet -- do so.

Hi y'all,
In the past I have always encouraged everyone to vote during the election
process. At GAGen Web Project we are lucky to have so many hard working
CC's. As CC's you need to be represented by some of our own people. Linda
Blum-Barton is running for National Coordinator.
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gafayett/2008/2008.htm I am running for
SEMA County Coordinator Representative.

Please check out our sites and
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgwelections/national-2008/candidates-ind
ex.htm. I'd love you be your representative and hope that you will consider
me. But the most important thing is to VOTE.
Thanks,
Kemis Massey

After much delay and sweat and headaches, I think I finally have everything
moved onto the new server for Webster and Stewart counties. I had initially
moved everything over, then realized how many links needed to be fixed. I
had thought I fixed them, but had really just messed them up (the reason for
the sweat and headaches!). Now I am pretty sure I have it all sorted out and
have removed the links for things I could not find (like the page for the
Women's Civil War Diaries, which was on Rootsweb but I can't find it now).
Please update your links for these two counties:
www.thegagenweb.com/gawebste/index.htmlwww.thegagenweb.com/gastewar/index.html
Also, have Chattahoochee and Marion counties moved to new locations?
Now that I have this all moved, I can ponder a redesign of the pages. I have
been looking into some social networking ideas to see if I can get more
involvement from researchers with county connections, and wanted to ask you
folks if any of you have tried anything like www.geni.com or a link sharing
site like ma.gnolia? I signed up for ma.gnolia and started a list of links
with tags, but it looks like I will not be able to share a "page" with
others like you can do with sites like del.icio.us. I think other people
have to join ma.gnolia in order to view my links and connect with me. I
would like to link to a "links" page (probably offsite) where I can tag the
sites so people can sort out things like state info vs. county info, etc.
That way I can use one "links" page for both counties and visitors can weed
out what they need by viewing the tags (like "Stewart County" or "Webster
County"). I did like the way ma.gnolia let you put more than one word in a
tag, so they wouldn't be split up like "Stewart" and then "county".
I have heard that Facebook has quite a few genealogy researchers and pages
devoted to that, but wanted to hear from you all if any of you are trying
something like that. I don't know much about Facebook, but have heard much
better things about it than places like Myspace (I have become sort of
anti-Myspace, so wouldn't be interested in starting something there). This
may be a better-functioning way of connecting local researchers and people
posting queries on surnames and that sort of thing. Maybe it would be
possible in the future to have something statewide that county coordinators
could join in with, to keep us all connected.
Any one have any thoughts on all this? I'd love to hear other ideas as well.
Thanks all, and hope everyone is getting a good long weekend! Happy 4th!

I totally understand. We've never been through anything quite like this. I've been
trying to get New London Co CTGenWeb moved for three months, and have been working full
time in real estate and chipping away at web pages late at night when I am no longer
thinking straight. I reorganized the pages and directories to such an extent that I could
no long send my updated pages to RW, so it was a mess.
In the meantime, new contributions come in, and you just have to work them in to the 30
hour day.
I celebrated last night by redecorating the main page of Gwinnett a little bit. I have so
many photos to add to the site, and I'd like to be more active on the Gwinnett list. For
now, it's catching up on SC cemeteries. Back to busy normal instead of busy insane. It
feels good!

Pat,
Those pages are not being maintained and the photos found there are being
linked to from the archives' TOC's. The files were in the archives anyway.
I have a list of URL's that I have put together from other posts and was
going to send it to Ed & Vivian to share with the list. I'll look over it
again and make sure it's as complete as possible at this point and forward
it on.

Happy Independence Day, Everyone! I guess you can tell by my mail that I am not watching
fireworks tonight (we did see a concert in Lawrenceville last night with little fireworks
afterward). I hope everybody is having a fun weekend.
I *finally* have finished moving my last two (and largest two) USGenWeb county sites, and
am going back now to check and update links on my other county pages, starting with
Gwinnett County. I think I've got most of the main pages to the USGenWeb Special
Projects, but I'm running across some pages I've never seen before, and I don't know if
there is a "current" counterpart on the new server. This is one of them:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/ga/photo/pics.html
Is this one still being updated, or is it defunct?
Let me know if you see any on my pages that are not current.
Thanks.

GA CCs have always been very active in Elections -- we never take these
things lightly, and know that our voice in the USGenWeb project really counts.
I just got my password....so be on the look-out for yours.
USGenWeb 2008 Voting Password
That was the heading in the subject line.
Read each page and follow directions.... the email contains your password,
which you can "copy and paste" into the Election Voting Form. The 2nd link
will take you to the Voting page, if you are ready to vote!
We are all eligible to vote for the National Coordinator (and one of our
very own GA CCs (Linda Barton) is running this year)
Also the SEMA Rep from the CCs is one of our very own GA CCs.... Kemis Massey.
If any of you want to know more details about any of the candidates, you
can review their election page -- or I would also be happy to share what I
know of the candidates running.
If you are chatting with any GA CCs, do remind them to vote!!
