Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Must've been a glitch cause it looks fine from my side. try again, ok?

Bettie,
Will the Family Group Sheet Project be moving? I know that it would be a major task to move all the information.
I will send you the new URL for my web sites as soon as I get everything up and running. Have worked all weekend to find a mistake that I made in coding. I knew that it was something simple as some pages would open with the header and footers while others would not. I have just found it. I left the "L" off html.

Just got back online after a nap and have found my problem. Left out part
of a code. I will be slowly moving my files around the next few days or
even weeks. I knew that everything worked on my other USGenNet sites and
could not figure out why they would not work on the new ones.
Thanks to everyone that offered to help.
As soon as I get things a little more organized, I will announce the new
URLs.

I set up a mailing list on a new domain if you want to subscribe you can but its only optional not a requirement its only for GAGenWeb CC's and will be administrated by Vivian or myself if shes out of the pocket. Official GAGenWeb Business will still be handled on the RW list for the time being like anything I get from the NC or AB that you need to know. The new list will be a safe place to talk about whatever but use your heads no nasty grams like any of you would post such a thing anyway.
If you want to sub to it email Vivian msaffold(a)bellsouth.net or me edeye1(a)bellsouth.net

The Mailing list is something we may want to talk about. Some don't feel comfortable talking about Sites on RW on a RW list. Vivian and I have talked a bit but this needs to be a Project decision I think.

Ed,
Is the idea for posting site changes to the new list so that it will be
easier for Linda to sort through them?
If so, will you please post them here also so that those who aren't subbed
there will know to change links on their county sites?
Thanks!

I will not be moving Lincoln County for now. I prefer to wait and see what
is happening before I make a hasty decision and perhaps lose many of Lincoln
County researchers because they can no longer find the site. I have had this
for many years and have never had any problems. I don't anticipate any now.

I am one of the people that panicked when the announcment came out about
RW. I had wanted to move my county sites off RW for some time, but due to
health problems had just delayed the move. I got my new space yesterday
during all the storms and have found that it is a bigger job than I had
expected. (I knew that moving about 2000 pages would be a big job, but did
not know how big.) I have all kind of broken links and need to re-do some
of the folders.
Although I have the new web space, it may be a few days or even weeks
before I can get everything moved. Even then what guarentee do we have
that the new sites will not be harvested and placed on a "pay-to-view"
site???
What I might do is move my important files to the new server and link them
from the RW site. At least that would get my volunteers and visitors use
to the new site while I am making the changes.

I like Yahoo, too. It's easy enough to ignore the commercial ads, and the list can be
member only and not listed in the Yahoo directory. I host a Yahoo Health group with
almost 450 members, and it's been very user friendly for me and my members for over three
years.
They like the bells and whistles, the photo album, the ability to post links to relevant
information, etc. Members can set their preference to get individual e-mail messages or
read messages on the web and just get special notices from the owner/moderator. If a
member goes on vacation, he/she can temporarily change the preference without the list
owner's intervention.

I have several big counties at RW. When I get them reorganized and moved, I'll continue
to link to the RW message boards and mailing lists (as well as other relevant lists and
boards). They never really belonged to us, anyway (we just thought they did when we
created them and stupidly solicited contributions from our volunteers). In my opinion, it
would not benefit the researchers to create new boards and lists. I've seen that happen,
and when the CC changes servers again, there goes the message board.
On the other hand, I always have thought that confidential USGenWeb Project CC and
regional lists should *not* be on RW. I don't lose any sleep over it, but it's a little
like my company (RE/MAX Northeast) having it's agent/office meetings at Coldwell Banker.
Not! :-)
