Thanks, Vivian, for this helpful link to maps. I am from Missouri
originally, and have lived near Georgia now for only a few years. I am
mystified by Georgia's need for so many counties, and the fact they
formed so many of them over a long period of time makes having all the
maps one can lay hands on so much easier for people like me. A tidbit I
have read recently, that may or may not affect how Georgia genealogy
goes on, is that the people in what was once Milton County wish to
reorganize that defunct jurisdiction by breaking off from Fulton
County. I understand that Georgia has a constitutional limit on the
number of counties and Milton cannot be reorganized. However, there is
talk of having two rural counties merge so that Milton County can be
reorganized. I would think that Milton County, since it once existed,
would be able to argue in court that it is not truly a new county, but
an old county coming back from County Heaven. Perhaps this is old news;
I just ran across it the other day and thought I would pass it on to the
list.
