Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Because of privacy issues, identity theft, stalkers, etc - we decided as a
group a few years ago to abide by the Census rule. While this was not an
"official" decision, it was one based on consideration for those who may not want
their personal information easily accessible on the Internet. How much
information governmental agencies put online is being challenged - I think we
should stay ahead of the trend and protect the living.

You don't have to set a cut off date on marriage records if you don't
want one. The marriage licenses records are available to general public but
the marriage licenses applications records are only available to bride or
groom. See this State of GA website:
http://health.state.ga.us/programs/vitalrecords/marriage.asp . The records
that I have on Franklin & Stephens County site is only limited as to what
the transcriber contributed.

Speaking of the old days, in August 2004 I received a zip file from Sherry
Osburn with all of her original files for Walker County's first website on
GAGenWeb. It's a treasure trove of information, some of which 'escaped' as
Walker transitioned from one CC to another after Sherry left the project.
I have been compiling all Walker info that I have either inherited or that
has been shared with me into a new site. I am putting that site on my
server while I am Walker CC and will be archiving it on RootsWeb for the
safekeeping of this data collection for the project. (Don't worry, Ed!)
If you link to Walker County, would you please change your link to the
following:
http://walker.thegaproject.org
Surrounding counties are Dade, Catoosa, Whitfield, Gordon and Chatooga.
Sylvia
OMG Sylvia did that bring up memories Dr. Brian Leverich, I wonder if he
still around, remember the sever breakdowns and moving things around?
running the rootsweb our of his garage?
Do you all realize it has only been 11 years that all of this miracle has
come about? that is two three moves from Alaska to Idaho to Georgia for me
and possibly another on the horizon. But we have managed to keep this place
going and growing. Voting is important, it is the only we can be heard.
Deborah Byrd
I understand that reissued passwords will take place on Monday -- for those
who didn't get their password.
It is important that you speak up and let everyone know you didn't get one!
nduffy(a)patch.net Nola can take care of this for you.
Remember, your vote means so much not only for GAGenWeb, but also the
entire USGenWeb. Leadership is important!
If you have any questions about the candidates, visit their campaign
pages, and also ask some of us who have worked with them over the years.
Some issues come up every Election time -- and this year it seems there is
much misrepresentation of the facts regarding our GAGenWeb. This is why it
is so critical that we in GAGenWeb do vote!!!
Virginia,
I haven't yet received my password. If you've sent it, I may not have gotten it due to problems with my computer and e-mail.
Thank you,

Hello, fellow GAGenWebbers,
If you have not yet voted in the USGenWeb elections, please consider
doing so. This election is particularly important to the GAGenWeb Project.
Voting will continue until July 31. Complete information is available here:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/national-2007/index-2007.htm
If you have questions, I will be happy to answer. Please write to me privately.
Thanks for all you do!

This post was made on DISCUSS by our National Coordinator and I thought some
of you might be interested in knowing - relieved, is more like it.
It is my understanding that a majority of the issues
with uploading to the servers housing the project
websites at Rootsweb have been resolved.
There may still be a few who are unable to connect for
a brief time, but the majority of you should be back
in business.
