Dear GAGenWeb members:
This is a reminder that the deadline for voting on Motion No. 07-03
is approaching.
Below is the original post, which contains the entire motion.
**Even if you do not wish to vote on this issue, please send Ed a
cheery hello, so he will know you are alive and well. He will be
using this as a quarterly roll call.**
Thanks,
Vivian
Assistant State Coordinator
The GAGenWeb Project
You may have been following the debate over the proposed amendment --
Advisory Board Motion No. 07-03 -- which would enable implementation of
a grievance process that *already is in place.* USGW bylaws stipulate
that, in order for this amendment to be voted on by the USGW membership,
it must be sponsored by at least five state projects. The GAGenWeb
Project has been asked to consider sponsoring this amendment. The
amendment itself is below.
Here is the question:
Do you think The GAGenWeb Project should sponsor the amendment included
below?
Please vote "yes" or "no" by responding to Ed Gordon at this address:
edeye1(a)bellsouth.net
by Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. EST
As always, a two-thirds majority of those voting will be required for passage.
Everyone certainly is free to debate the merits of the amendment itself,
but remember this poll *only* concerns sponsorship, e. g. whether or not
you believe the USGW membership should be given an opportunity to vote
on this issue. If the required five-state sponsorship is achieved, a
national election will determine whether or not the amendment becomes
part of the bylaws.
Thanks,
Ed Gordon

"These USGenWeb Bylaws; Article VI (Duties/Qualifications of Advisory
Board), Section 3 and Article XIV (Grievance Procedures and Appeals
Process) are repealed and replaced as stated below.
Article VI, Section 3.
The responsibilities of the Advisory Board shall include addressing any
problem issues as they arise; aiding the state projects upon request;
establishing and overseeing committees; reviewing grievance appeals in
accordance with the Grievance Committee Procedures, and appointing a
webmaster to maintain the national website.
Article XIV, Section 1.
A standing Grievance Committee will be established.
Article XIV, Section 2.
The Grievance Committee will operate under the Grievance Policies and
Procedures. Changes to the Grievance Policies and Procedures may be
made by the Advisory Board or may be proposed by the Grievance Committee
for approval by the Advisory Board. The current Grievance Policies and
Procedures shall be displayed on the National website.
Article XIV, Section 3.
The Advisory Board will appoint the initial members of the Grievance
Committee. Thereafter, the Grievance Committee will recommend for
approval by the Advisory Board a slate of members to fill vacant

Article XIV, Section 4.
The Grievance Committee will administer a fair, orderly, and timely
resolution of a grievance in accordance with the Grievance Policies and
Procedures.
Article XIV, Section 5.
The resolution of a grievance is binding upon the membership.
Article XIV, Section 6.
All actions, whether by the national Grievance Committee or by a
grievance process at a state or special project level, shall be
characterized by fairness, courtesy, and respect for the dignity and the
rights of each individual. To that end, the following rights and
responsibilities apply to all grievance processes within the USGenWeb
Project, XXGenWeb Projects, and Special Projects.
Article XIV, Section 6(1).
A member may choose to act as his or her own representative, or may
select someone to act as his or her representative. The member retains
the right to change or dismiss the representative at any step of the
procedure; however, such action will not affect the point at which the
change or dismissal occurs.
Article XIV, Section 6(2).
When a member is dismissed from a position in a State, Local, or Special
Project, that member's position may not be filled until the expiration
of the time for that member to file a grievance. When the said member
files a grievance, that position may not be filled unless the grievance
resolution against the member calls for the member to lose that
position. Nothing should prevent the unlinking of the member's website
and establishing a temporary website pending resolution of any
grievance.
Article XIV, Section 6(3).
Nobody shall be discriminated against for participating in the
grievance process."
Not that I know of.

Over the last couple of years different members, or groups, have
asked for something (flyers, brochures, etc.) from the states to
hand-out to visitors who stop by a USGenWeb Project's booth at
conferences. Left over hand-outs from one conference were packed
up and sent on to the member(s) who would be hosting a booth at
the next conference. After the conference in St George (Joy
Fisher posted information about that recently) the supply of
state hand-outs has been exhausted.
There are two conferences coming up - a conference in CA in June
and the FGS conference during Aug in Ft. Wayne, IN - where
members have committed to a USGenWeb Project booth and they are
in need of state hand-outs. Having a state hand-out is such a
great way to promote your state project. The hand-outs don't have
to be professional printed or cost a lot of money. If even half
of the CCs in a state were to print a few hand-outs and mail them
no one would be out a lot of money. If you're interested in
promoting your state to conference attendees please consider
contributing hand-outs and talk to your fellow state CCs.
If you'd like to "do something" but aren't sure what - at the FGS
conference in Boston last year the #1 hand-out was a small
colored, post card sized, map of IA, printed on heavy card stock,
showing the county names and boundaries. We were continuously
asked if we had such maps for other states.
If you have questions or I can help in any way please let me
know..
Feel free to forward this to any appropriate Project list.

I need to clear up a "might be a missunderstanding"
In my earlier post I said "As always, a two-thirds majority will be

this should of read "As always, a two-thirds majority of those voting
