Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I was under the impression that political messages have no place on
GaGenWeb.

Hi all,
A researcher is looking for an old community in Georgia called Carlowville.
Is anyone familiar with it? She has a picture of a sign that says
Carlowville Baptist Church founded 1837, but she can't remember what county she was in
when she took the picture.
Thank you,

Harris Hill, who has done such a fine job with Marion County, is having to
curtail some of his responsibilities, and needs to give up Marion County.
If anyone has an interest in Marion County, I'd love to hear from
you. Being an "original County" in the 1827 land lottery, it is
significant to western Georgia researchers.
Pass this along to anyone you know that is interested in doing a GAGenWeb

I'm so glad for all of you in GAGenWeb who can feel optimistic about the future of the
Project. I haven't earned my stripes, so to speak, so felt somewhat unworthy to
participate in the election. In the short time I've been here, I can tell how dedicated
everyone has been to working through problems and details. Thank you Joy and the whole
transition team, Jacki and the bylaws committee, and congratulations to Vivian!
Changing the subject.....It seems that someone made an announcement recently about a site
for historic maps, and I can't remember if it was the Carl Vinson Inst. for Govt. at UGA
or another site. While looking for historic South Carolina maps, I found this site at the
Univ. of Alabama. It has great maps of Georgia, in high enough resolution to zoom in and
get good detail of counties. http://alabamamaps.ua.edu/historicalmaps/georgia/ . And,
yes, I did find my SC maps there, too! :-)

I would like to thank both Vivian and Jacki for
accepting their nominations. I would also like to
thank those who nominated folks - and those who
thought long and hard before declining the
nominations. We need more CCs like you!!!
I extend to Vivian my congratulations. I am willing to
offer her advice and support, should she ask for it.
Please give Vivian all the support you have given me
for the past two months (and in a few cases, give her
even more support - just kidding!!).
It has been my pleasure to serve as temporary SC. We
have made a lot of progress since June 1st, more than
I had hoped, but not as much as I would have wanted.

I'd like to extend my congratulations to Vivian Saffold on being the new GA
SC, and also to Jacki Jonas. Jacki may not have won, but, has worked very
hard for GAGenWeb and I know that she will continue on with the new
committee.
I am so very pleased to have seen the day that an election could be held in
GA. I believe in them and know that from here forward they will continue.
Vivian, I know GA is good hands! I'm sure everyone looks forward to a new
approach and a positive attitude.
Jan Cortez
I want to extend my congratulations to Vivian as well. I am confident that The
GAGenWeb Project is in good hands. I also want to thank everyone who voted, both
in the SC election and in response to the Bylaws questions.

I second the congratulations to Vivian. And I second the Thanks! to
Jacki for running for SC and for her work on the Bylaws committee.
I look forward to working with everyone in a new supportive atmosphere.
I know that we can make GAGenWeb a knock-out project - we definitely
have the volunteers to do it with and now the ability to make that
happen.
I also want to thank all of you for your support while I have served as
your SEMA CC Rep on the Advisory Board. It has been a learning
experience for me and if I continue to serve after the elections are
over I will continue to work for CC's rights within this project and for
quality at all levels of the project.
If you haven't yet voted in the National Elections, please do so! This
is the last week - Saturday is the last day. That is our most important
right within this project and we need to exercise that right. I am so
happy to see so many GA CC's voting and hope the numbers will continue
to rise as we go forward.

Hello, all,
As of today, I am resigning my post on the GAGenWeb bylaws committee. I
will remain an ex-officio (non-voting) member. The committee is in the very
capable hands of Jacki Jonas, who has the experience and wisdom to guide us
to a fair and workable governing document. Jacki and I are counting on you
to give the committee your ideas and opinions.
Jacki no doubt would have made a much better state coordinator than I. I
will continue to rely on her counsel, as well as the advice of all of you.
Vivian Price Saffold
Greetings, GAGenWeb family,
I wanted to take a moment to thank a few folks who deserve considerable
praise today.
Thanks to Joy for providing calm and able leadership during the last few
months. Thanks, also, to the Transition Team. All of the members of this
team have stayed the course and served this project for many years under
difficult circumstances. We all owe them a big round of applause.
Thanks to Deb and Nola and the rest of the folks on the Elections Committee
who shepherded us through the election process, as well as to the national
leaders who helped get us to this point.
The members of the Transition Team, however, are not the only ones who have
persevered. Thanks to all of you veteran volunteers. And to you "newbies,"
welcome and thanks so much for joining us.
Thanks to all who voted and to those who have offered their support and
good wishes.
Nancy Gay Crawford signs her emails with a signature quote: "Always try to
be Fair, Honest and Kind." I think would be a great in-house slogan for
GAGenWeb -- with emphasis on the "kind" part.
Together we can make this a vibrant, relevant and inclusive project. I
believe that great things are in store for GAGenWeb.
Stay tuned...
Vivian Price Saffold
Thanks, Nancy.
If you don't mind, I'd like to use your signature quote in a message to the
membership. I think it is particularly appropriate right now.

Congratulations Vivian. I look forward to working with you.
Joy it has been a pleasure having you as our temporary SC. Thank you for
your help during the transition. It was a very difficult position and I
appreciate your dedication and thoughtfulness. You did a wonderful job!
