Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I got a photograph for my website, so that I can now start a photo album. Problem is, its an Adobe pdf scan, which I have no idea how to work with. I need it put in a jpg format, so that I can do a thumbnail for the photo album and then click into the larger photo. I've written the gal and she doesn't know how to do it any other way.
Can anyone tell me how to do that?

This is great!
I looked at Holly Timm's page about setting up tables and converting..wow!
Question: can this method be used for the archives posts?

If there are areas that you remember where you could have used some help,
do mention it to them.

Guess who the staff genealogist is for the new newspaper, the McDuffie
Mirror? Guess! Go ahead and guess!
Yes! It's me! I am the staff genealogist for the newspaper.
A reporter from the Augusta Chronicle did a story on me about 5 months ago.
He is now with the Mirror and he called me up to ask if I would be
interested in the job. It took me about 1 sec to tell him yes.
Is that cool or what. I will be doing a weekly question and answer column
and whatever else they want me to do.

Melody asked that we let all of you know that she is with her Mom at Emory
Hospital and it appears it may be a while before she is able to be back at
her desk.
There are several complications which all started with the removal of her
larynx due to cancer, and she's now back in ICU.
Do keep all of her family in your prayers as her condition seems quite serious.
All of you in South Central Region -- please, just carry on as you are, and
if you have any questions or need any help just ask any of the RCs. I'll
be glad to work with you until Melody is back.

Although I realize that folks like this exist - I thought most of these folks
had died out several years ago or had crawled back under the rocks from which
they came.
Too bad that such folks can't find useful and productive things to do with
their lives.

I contacted hotmail, which assured me that his account had been cancelled.
I also contacted afreeinternet.com. They have also deleted his account and
apologized that someone used their services for such a hateful message.
The third address was from a German company, which I also contacted. No
response from them yet.

Sheesh.
And my ISP has a spam filter that supposedly filters out racial emails.
Missed on this one.

"review" the web sites? If there is a problem they can't handle, then the
RC should be able to go to the SC.

I would think that RCs would fall under the phrase 'under the supervision
of the SC'. It means that while the SC is ultimately responsible - they
can have help in accomplishing that precept.

From the Guidelines - #17 - "All members of GAGenWeb are responsible for
notifying their RC and/or the SC about being away from their computer for
any length of time longer than 7 days."
How you wish to handle coverage is up to you for the time you'll be away.
What you've proposed - an automated reply sounds sufficient.
Tim
Jan, don't think this person was using hotmail or any of those others but a
proxy address so he is sending mail as if it is coming from one of those but
actually isn't. Don't know or understand all of the things that a person
can do but I was told they can send an email which seems to come from one
isp but actually comes from another???? but the government will be able to
tell where it is coming from. We got a second one tonight from the same
person but another set of addresses to trace. But I have blocked his mail
now Maybe it is over with...but would love to know what happens with the
gov traces. Maybe Monday I will get a reply from them. Gloria

I also received the "Negro Slaves" email. While it was addressed to several
lists, I was one of the lucky ones addressed individually. It was sent by
Muhammad-Munir Fahmy - who (according to a yahoo.com search) lives in D.C.
I sent it to the AOL TOSS team and also to the USGovernment: uce(a)ftc.gov
The nice thing about this email addy is that if the email you send to it
contains a virus, it automatically sends you a warning. I check many suspect emails
with it.
As a supporter of the <A HREF="http://www.splcenter.org/">SPLC</A> and its <A HREF="http://www.splcenter.org/intelligenceproject/ip-index.html">Intelligence Project</A>, I forwarded the
email to them, also.
The one thing old Muhammad-Munir Fahmy didn't count on: I have struck up a
couple of potential friendships with others on this list. What a silly, little
man to think we people who have no tolerance for prejudice would not form an
even stronger bond to squeeze people like him out of our lives.

I've never actually had a need for coverage, but since I will be taking an
ACTUAL vacation for the first time in YEARS, I thought I'd ask and be sure
to be in line with the rules.
I'll be away from 7/26 to 8/4. It's only a week and my sites don't generate
the kind of mail that can't wait a week... and lately, they barely generate
any mail at all. People are away I guess--or tending to kids that are home

Please advise as to whether coverage is required, or if a site posting or
automated e-mail reply will suffice. Also, I know Nebraska and Colorado
have roll calls that I will be "late" for. Just let me know how to handle
it!
Thanks much,
