Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

The land was purchased from 1880 till 1895 from the Drew brothers who operated a turpentine distillery in Irwin County. The Drew brothers owned most of the land in that area where the town of Fitzgerald was built. Hi,
I hope someone on the list can help me out here!
I am transcribing a newspaper I dug out of one of my boxes of newspapers
that I inherited!
It is a 1905 edition of The Enterprise Gazette of Coweta County, Ga.
I am transcribing an article that is about the man (Col. P. H. Fitzgerald)
who came south from Indianapolis and brought 10,000 northerners to settle
Fitzgerald, Ga in Irwin County (yes, I know, it is in Ben Hill now).....the
article is about another plan of Fitzgerald's to bring 10,000 more to settle
another farming community in Georgia. It does not name an area, just that
he will need approx. 50,000 acres.
Does anybody have any idea of where this second community may have been
located if it ever came to fruition? The name of his company as listed in
this article is "Colony Company".
I would appreciate any leads on this.
Thanks,
Linda Blum-Barton
Correction. On position 3, only SCs and ASCs vote for that Representative.

Linda,
As I stated to you in response to a private email from you which I just
received, I thought, based on the subject line, that the email was, in fact, a
response on the GAGEN list, and not to a private email received from you.
Please accept my apologies for the error. It was wholly unintentional. As I
previously stated to you, I believed I was responding to an email from you on
the GAGEN list.
Thank you for setting the record straight.

Linda,
I have not sent you any private emails. If you refer to an email in response
to yours at 11:35 PM last evening, that, too, was sent to the list. Note the
address to which the email was sent: GAGEN-L(a)rootsweb.com.

The Election of Board Members to the Advisory Board who will represent all
of us will be taking place July 1-31. That's a long time period to assure
that everyone has the opportunity to vote.
Now you can begin to review the candidate's and their campaign pages to
read about their views on USGenWeb and their goals for our wonderful
project. Voting is so important...and here is your opportunity to make
your own decision about the person you would like to be seated on the AB
for the coming years.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/nationals-index.htm
Click on Meet the Candidates and get to know them. All of them welcome your
e-mails if you have specific questions.
As a CC in Georgia, you are eligible to vote on:
1) National Coordinator
2) Representative at Large
3) SEMA State Coordinator Representative
4) SEMA CC Representative (2 positions)
Another good way to learn about individuals is to go through the recent
Archives for the USGENWEB-Discuss list, as many of them are participants on
that list.
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/
Type in USGENWEB-DISCUSS and then select the current month.
At the top of the page for the month's messages, you can select
"threaded" (which sometimes is confusing) or chronological.
Of course you can also be a member of this list by subscribing....but it is
a very active list! It is a well run list though, and you'll learn a lot
from the dialogue that occurs.

Don't there have to be questions before one can give answers?

What web site?
Tim
Obviously some folks don't understand that private mail is just that - that
it is not to be shared with others and plopped all over mailing lists.
The private mail below was a standard note sent to CCs under the Guidelines.
As Jan has said - private notes are better than public ones, for the
business of compliance and/or broken links are not public business but
rather private between the coordinator and their RC, ASC or SC.

Well it would seem to me that someone needs to sent the SC a message like he sent Bettie Wood.
At least Donna has stipulated what needs to be fixed which is more courtesy than Bettie was
afforded.

USGenWeb's motto is - Volunteers dedicated to free, online information.
Richard,
I believe the email you sent me privately may have been the one you intended
to go to GAGEN.
You might want to resend it so everyone can see your new project with
Wyndell.
You and Wyndell might be interested in seeing what I did with Fayette County
Cemeteries last year
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafayett/Cemeteries/cemeteries.htm
and how I am cross-linking them with my Churches page
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafayett/church/churches.htm
The researchers in Fayette County have really appreciated this and begun to
contribute more material and photos.
In reference to your message, I believe it goes much deeper and to points of
more importance than "policeing pages".
I am sorry to hear that you as a CC, RC and ASC are not interested.

Linda,
I have not looked at that site, and have no intention of doing so. I am too
busy working on various counties and projects together with my RC duties to
have time to police other people's pages. I am certainly glad that you and
others have sufficient time on your hands to visit other pages. I know that
I
can rely on you. :)
Regardless of the above, my point was, and remains, that the proper
mechanism
to make these concerns known is to address the CC, his or her RC, or the SC
and ASC *privately*, and not publicly on the list where doing so is only
going
to upset some, embarass others, and run others away from the Project.
Richard

Regional Coordinators are there to help County Coordinators. Don't
hesitate to contact them should you have any, any question. To find
info on your region visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/regional.html
Ummmm, I would like to know what was stipulated that needed to be fixed? If
it was *her* county being critiqued like that *in public*, I bet she would not
be as happy about it. And, on that vein, would you prefer that site
compliance notices be sent via the GAGEN list than privately? Also, while you
included one person's correspondence to another, did you also include their
response?
Hard as it is to believe, we are all on the same side here. Our goal is to
make genealogical data available to people on the internet for free. Do we
all have that goal? If not, why not?
