Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Tim,
Having the current CC sitting in on "council" and issuing the report is
better than nothing. But beyond that I agree with each of Jan's
statements about this. We should know what the Council is doing to
further the growth and usefulness of GAGenWeb.
As I have said before, as volunteer CC's in this project, it is our
business to know how the project is being run and what is being done to
solve the problems we have.

At the risk of sounding disrespectful, which is not my intent, the
report
doesn't tell me anything. It's so generic, I think that I could write
it up
without having been there, just on things, that sound like good things
to
discuss.
Since this council should be working towards betterment of the GAGenWeb
and
for the CC's, I fail to understand why this council could not have a
private
list that everyone could sub to and see just exactly what is transpiring
in
regards to this project.
I do realize that any grievances, or problems, if asked for by the CC's,
would need to be of a private nature, but, aside from that, I believe it
should all be out in the open.
There is no need for secrecy, as it should all be, *we* as a group
working
together for the betterment of the GAGenWeb. A little more out in the
open
might go a long ways to solve some of the concerns here.
Just MHO for what it's worth.

I think we need to see more about the discussion and what is being said, not
just a topic.
I feel that we could have more understanding if we knew more about what is
happening.

Ok folks, a question for you - is this report:
- better than nothing from the Council?
- does it make you more curious?
- would 'fleshing' it out be better?
- is it helpful or would you rather not have it?
Once the Council members know your response, I believe we can better serve
you.

Viruses these days "spoof" addresses, so I don't think we should be blaming
the person's name who is on the virus. I know that it was more than one
name. The address is the Houston County courthouse, so I think it is even
less likely that Perry Courthouse is spamming us. However it is likely that
someone opened a screensaver with a virus and we were on their email address
lists, because the person is a Georgia researcher or helper. I don't think
it does any good to defame the poor person whose name is on the email
address.
I think we have wasted enough archive space on this thread and since I
started it, please allow me to end it. We all need adequate virus and
security protection. Just buying it isn't enough, you have to visit the
Antivirus software site and update regularly.
regards,
Gaila
AVG is excellent as well - Free - Free virus definition updates every few
days.
Go to Google and put in free virus scanners and it should pop near the top.

Which Spam?
Andrew said that more spam had been getting through to us this week while
they were working on a server, because they had to turn off a filter for a
while, but now it has been fixed.
He was really amazed at all the filters do catch that we don't even see.
I don't get as much spam as I used to, because my ISP filters most of it,
and what it doesn't catch , I forward to them to review.
