Hi folks,
Just a brief note to let you know I'm still alive.
My work has got me snowed at present. I've worked over 60 hours since
Sunday noon and getting home after 11 PM doesn't leave much energy or
desire to do much more than eat and go to bed.
I'm looking forward to this weekend not only for rest but getting geared
back into genealogy.

I would like to tell you about an interesting source of information I recently discovered. My father served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at a camp in Chipley, Ga. This is a time in his life that I have very little knowledge of.
I wrote to:
National Archives and Records Administration
National Personnel Records Center
Civilian Personnel Records
111 Winnebago St.
St. Louis, MO 63118
You must supply as much information as you can, SS nbr., death certificate or other proof that the individual is deceased, camp nbr.(if known, mine was not), camp location(I only had an about location). What I got back was pretty incredible. Copies of all of the CCC records on my Dad, listing next of kin, address, place and date of birth, education level, job assignments, signatures on enlistment records, location of the camp, and eventually discharge information.
Some of this I had already, but I thought that it was a great source. The cost? Zero. The time? about 3 weeks. If you had family that served in the CCC and you are missing information about this period in their lives. It might be worth writing them to see what they have.

Does anyone have any information on when rootsweb will have the county
searches available again?

I am here, same with me - hopefully things will slow down shortly I have
worked on Paulding this past week and am fixing bad links at present, still
have a ways to go on the others as well, but I am still kicking, between
funerals, babies (newborns - 1 in the family and 2 of my team mates
expecting their wives to drop one any minute it is quite hectic).

With Gratitude and a great deal of excitement, I would like to say that the 1830 Census is available online at the Houston County Webpage. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gahousto/
Terre Moody Walker has over the past several months been working on transcribing the 1830 Census and has made it available to Houston County Researcher's online.
This is a brilliant effort on her part and I would like to thank her on our behalf.
Terre grew up in Houston County and has a sustaining love of place, for Perry and Houston County. Houston County researchers reap the benefits of this, as we can now search through the Census of 1830, as well as her information on Civil War Regiments from Houston County and even a PostCard tour of Old Perry. The Links are there from the Houston County web page.
Thanks to Terre for her splendid efforts on our behalf. Terre you are a real Georgia Peach. Thanks to Randall Walker for his proof-reading.
Houston County researchers appreciate your efforts,
Best Regards,
Gaila Merrington

PS
This is a large Excel Spreadsheet and it will take a while to download. To find a name, use Control F
type in the name and then hit Find next. This will take you to First and Last names but it is the quickest way to find the names you are researching.
Added this morning: Glynn, Greene, Gwinnett, Habersham and Hall counties.
Also added: maps of the areas showing the districts involved in the lottery.

Hi all,
Over the past several months, I have sent emails out about the Clapp Cemetery (located in Muscogee County - Columbus, GA) trying to find more descendants whose family members may have been buried there. The cemetery is not being taken care of my the current owners, Georgia Power and we would like to clean the cemetery in an effort to help those descendants find their families.
The following people or families have been identified so far:
Mary Catherine Skipper
John P. Lewis
J.F. Cain
Sarah Watson Hill
Jesse Hill
Dicey Coggins Hill
Charlotte I. Jones Hill
Nancy "Mammy" (Vickery?) Jackson
Mary Virginia Jackson Cole
John W. Cole
Margaret Hood Cole
Bird
Hopkins
Miller
Nix
Warren
Watson
There has been a temporary mailing list set up for all of those who are interested in helping with the research and preservation of the cemetery.
If you think you might be interested:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ClappCemetery/
Please keep in mind we don't know exactly who is buried there or where in the cemetery they are buried. THERE ARE NO RECORDS. Please do not ask me if your family members are there, I don't know. I only have some information on the people listed above and it is limited.
Thanks for any support that you can give us this cemetery.

Once again, CCs should feel free to "grab" these files and include them in

I am seeking information on my grandfather , James Franklin Mills, who was
born in 1872, somewhere in Wilkinson county. He may have had two siblings.
I do not know the parents' names and desparately need them or some other
link. If you have access to records of any kind in Wilkinson Co. , I will be
grateful for your help. Thank you, Sandra Mills Ambrose
