Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Yes and no. I got it done to the point of trying to add in the defunct
counties of
Campbell and Milton.

Those extra folks would be the Special Projects coordinators - few that
they are.

I have a CC who needs help with Front Page and Hotdog.
If you can take the time to answer questions regarding both programs,
please contact me. Thanks.

So the Board Members from the Regional Page are:
Jean Jones, Brenda Pierce, Carla Cegielski, Virginia Crilley, Margie
Glover-Daniels, Harry Folsom, Melody McCook, and Tim Stowell.
OR
If you click on the Region pages, Jean Jones is gone and so is the NE Region
page (my Hall Co. is gone), I have to replace Brenda Pierce's name with
Wyndell Taylor (Brenda Webb still has the Forsyth Webpage I took March 1,
2000), Carla is still on Northwest but they have put my Gordon Co page up for
Adoption, on South Central I have to replace Melody McCook with Gloria
Holback.
Do I have it right?
So like I said - does anyone know who is on the Board?
Our Native American Project comes up
404 Error Best of the Web.com
If you click on GA Records online it comes up and then click on Census
and you get a Rootsweb 404 not found so go over to my GA Info page and click
on Georgia Archives Census. It brings up the page but click on one of the
years. Nothing comes up.
In a Recent Upload to the archives Report, it listed a Forsyth item that I
had had linked from from my Forsyth page even when I was co-chairing with
Brenda in March of 1999. It wasn't new but it does have a new URL.
I think we need to spruce up our pages.

Virginia,
I use aolpress for a lot of my pages.
You don't have to be on AOL
It is no longer supported but it is available for free.
http://aolpress.com/
will take you to the page where you can download
for either 95/98/NT or for 3.1
Even if you don't use it to build the pages, you can use it to check links by
opening your page with it on your computer while you are online
Click on the top line on "tools"
Then Click on "check links".
It will go thru them one by one
fast if they are good
and say not found or timed out whatever.
I make a note of which ones it has trouble with, then manually check them.
If it seems to be hung on a bad one, move the cursor which will be an
hourglass (or busy) over "next" and it will turn back to a regilar cursor and
let you click next.
Maybe some of the others know of page software that has this feature.
I have 2 or 3 html editors, I will look and see if any of them do it.

The Election Study Committee is taking a survey! This survey is to
gather input from all of you regarding participation in USGenWeb
Project Elections. All responses will be kept confidential and will be
used solely to assist the Committee in formulating recommendations for

I propose a challenge.
The Georgia Tour
I have found that the users don't always let you know you have made a mistake
or that their browser can't read your page or that a link is bad.
I suggest that each CC visit at least the main page of 4 counties in each
direction from them on the GA County Table and look them over.
Try the links.
If anyone finds something, email privately to the CC in charge and just put
The Georgia Tour in the subject line, list the problems you had (be sure and
put the page link). No personalities need to be involved.
I know that I try to remember to spell check and to run "check links" before
I upload, but I don't always do it.
I think this would be goodhousekeeping on our part. These main pages are the
first impression that anyone has of GA Genweb.

I just tried David's suggestion....and it DOES WORK!! It takes a few
seconds.....so just be patient and don't think it's not working.
I had 97 links and the list is in alphabetical order....and I went through

The "other one"....I couldn't get to work....due to Java Script
errors....probably my Netscape browser.

Cat, it will, however,,, it will always open the pages in a new browser,
which is rather irritating, and, the host of that website has begun already
doing that on his own. I guess he got scared when folks started
threatening, so it no longer opens up inside his frames, or at least, the
GA, AL, and TN files did not. Also, the AL one now has a disclaimer saying
the files are NOT his, which makes him legal, which is bad, because now
legally there is nothing you can do.
Which is why I put a disclaimer on the site of mine he had taken (and intend
to check regularly) that says "keep genealogy free, use cyndi's list"
instead of his. Cyndi makes her money from ads, not from our links, so I
have no problems with her.

Basically, what these people are advertising is that they are doing your
searching for you, so I don't know the legalities. But,
For getting out of frames
Go to Georgia Links and Information
http://www.rootsweb.com/~galumpki/gainfo/
Click on view source and look at the very top.
One of the ways to break out of frames is put a link to your page and enclose
TARGET= blank (put quotes around the blanks). I named the link To break out
of someone's frames. That worked.
Later I went back and added the javascript. However I don't know what makes
it work, but it does.
If you want to test it go to Stephens County Genweb, which has frames.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gastephe/
page down to
Georgia Genweb Links and Information BIG SITE FOLKS
Click on it.
The page comes out of the frame.
Donna
I'm still not sure what each of us CCs can do to our pages to keep them
from being linked in someone else's frames. I'm not that savy with
HTML, so I need some help.
I found this, tho, at
http://www.webdeveloper.com/html/html_metatags_part2.html
Got there from Cyndi's Construction Kit page. It was a back to the
basics concerning META tags..
"Window-target
This one specifies the "named window" of the current
page, and can be used to
prevent a page from appearing inside another framed
page. Usually this means
that the Web browser will force the page to go the
top frameset.
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Window-target" CONTENT="_top"> "
Will this really work? Need help from some one more savy than me about
this stuff....
Thanks,

Hi, My name is Charles Danny Nelson. I reside at 228 Southview Ave. Warner
Robins, Ga. 31088 Ph.478-929-4850. I am reasearching my family on my dads
side. I already have history books on the Tysons and Shurlings (my mothers
side). I have copies of records on the Nelsons dating back to 1838
(birthdate) for Joseph Nelson who lived in Johnson Co. Ga.. I also have a
copy of Wade Nelsons will from the Wilkinson Co. probate office dated 1866.
Agustus Luther Nelson Jr. is my father. He grew up in Washington and Johnson
counties. My dad told me his dad died when he was arond 9 years old. He
doesn't know much about his family beyond what I have found out in the past
few months. He told me he has often wondered where his mother came from. Alma
Jane Kitchens Bonham resides in Augusta Ga. and seems to have an excellent
memory for an 85 year old. My wife and I videotaped an interview of her
telling us about her mother (Katie Lou Braswell Kitchens) and her grandmother
(Mollie Mae Johnson Braswell). Mollies husband was John Braswell. Alma claims
she lived on the Cherokee Indian reservation until the age of 9. They left
the reservation and moved to Ga. where she had to take speach lessons to
learn how to speak English because she spoke Cherokee. She told of how people
made fun of her because she spoke funny. I have given out several copies of
the tape and would like to share it with anyone interested. If you can post
this message in any way please do so. Thanks
