Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Is the intent to discontinue the Census and Tombstone projects or to merely
remove any representation for these projects from the Advisory Board? Does
this mean that there will be only 1 special project and does this not allow
for any future special projects? Has this proposed amendment been ratified
by other state projects or is GA voting on this as a potential sponsor of
the motion so that the vote can be put to the entire USGenWeb project?

I'm forwarding this "recall amendment" for your information. As I
understand it, the entire body of CCs throughout the USGenWeb would vote on
the actual amendment IF it becomes part of the ballot.
If you have questions about this amendment, I'm sure the Colorado person
who sent this in would be happy to discuss it with you. MHet703234(a)aol.com

Hi Fellow Researchers:
Effective June 1, I will fix broken email links ONLY when there's a
change in internet service provider [ISP]. The following are the
boards/lists that I am currently managing that are affected by this
change:
Fannin Co., GA Email list
Fannin Co., GA GenConnect Boards
Union Co., GA Email List
Union Co., GA Genconnect Boards
AKINS-L email list
Our Southern AKINS website
BOWERS Genconnect Boards
DANIEL Genconnect Boards
*****************************************
AOL users need to pick a screen name [i.e. email addy] for their
genealogy research and stick with it!!!. I can't stress this enough.
The amount of bounced emails and broken email links notifications from
the GenConnect boards that I receive is staggering and most of them are
concerning AOL users. This is unnecessarily wasting time and resouces,
not only to the lists/boards above...but it is affecting everyone
involved in the genealogical community which I understand now is about
1/3 of the entire internet.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation....
Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend....

Scott Warren is giving up his position as Regional Coordinator for the
East Central Region.
He is one of the original Regional Coordinators, and helped so much in
defining the role of this position.
It has essentially evolved into a Teaching Role. The person plays an
important role in the selection of new County Coordinators when positions
are vacated, and then works closely with the person in getting them
launched with their page.
If you've become a County Coordinator within the past two years, then you
probably were helped by your Regional Coordinator in this capacity. Now,
you have the opportunity to work with other new people!
The RC is available to help their CCs with anything they need help on, i.e
when new things come along like "Gatewaying of messages".
The RC also becomes part of the GAGenWeb Council and works as a team player
with the other RCs and Special Project people.
If you are interested in the position (and you don't need to be a CC in
the East Central Region), please let me know. If you have questions don't
hesitate to write me, as I'll be happy to go into more details if
necessary. I have found it to be very rewarding to get to know the CCs and
extend a helping hand when they need it.

Hello
Well with special thanks to William A Mills, we have the Evergreen
information on the Houston Co Web page. I will still be adding some special
photos. There is also a link to Research tips for Houston County.
The page is getting larger every day, so be sure to scroll down to find all
this new information. The plat is on a seperate page, so that if you are
trying to search for someone in Evergreen Cemetery, my suggestion would be
to open your Explorer or Netscape screen bring up the Houston County web
page:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gahousto/
Open your Explorer or Netscape screen bring up the Houston County web page
Scroll down to Evergreen Cemetery Plat
Open another Explorer or Netscape screen bring up the Houston County webpage
Open The Evergreen Cemetery page
Alt tab between the two pages for easier searching
This method will save you from waiting to download the Plat each time you
move back to the Names or information.
If you have problems with some of the pages loading, let me know, as several
of the pages have photos attached. If the photos slow too many researchers
down, I will remove them from those pages.
The photos show us the haunting beauty of Evergreen Cemetery, so I will set
up a seperate gallery for them .
Thanks to William A Mills for sharing his book with us. He is very generous
and I am sure we all appreciate it.
Enjoy the page

When the Georgia Links page was first created, the idea behind it was so
that ONE person would try to keep up with all those changing links, and the
rest of us could just benefit from this.
I apologize that now you're going to need to update that original
link.....but feel confident that Donna's going to create a far better page
than what I had been doing.
She welcomes your input....any time you discover a great link...do pass it
along to her and all of us as well...
And make your changes as to the "links" page as well....
>The old links page WAS
>http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/gainfo.htm
>there IS a redirect page there when the link is changed on the main page
NEW LINK should be:
Virginia
The old links page is still at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/gainfo.htm
there will be a redirect page there when the link is changed on the main page
UNTIL this is done
you will have to access
http://www.rootsweb.com/~galumpki/gainfo/
for any of the updates and/or changes.
This information is for the county coordinators benefit. Now is the time for
input and/or suggestions, while the page is being reconstructed.
Donna
Please make a change in your address book to my new email address at
dorw(a)inebraska.com
I am the County Coordinator for the Glascock and Warren County
GAGenWebpages and soon will change links to my new email address in all
of the webpages associated with these two counties.
I apologize for the inconvience!

I'm very happy that Donna Parrish volunteered to do the Georgia Links page,
and as you've seen, she is already hard at work making sure the links are
all working.
She will welcome any additional ones as well....
You probably already know Donna from several counties that she is the CC
for...and I am very grateful for her taking on this links page as well.
Virginia
The Georgia Genweb Links and Information Page has moved to
http://www.rootsweb.com/~galumpki/gainfo/
This page is an attempt to gather some of our favorite, most used and
possibly not as accessible links into one place for easy reference.
I will be rearranging some of the categories and adding and subtracting links.
Your input is welcome.
A few of the links are broken and I have marked them with ***.
I have located some of them and repaired them (unmarking them). If you happen
to have the new URL please send it and save me some searching.
Thanks
Donna Parrish
There are a number of documented cases where women actually fought in the
Civil War. Several of them lived their entire lives as men, and one North
Carolina lady filed a pension application for her service.
In Confederate Veteran's Magazine, June 1893, there is an intriguing and
touching story of a Confederate lady who was killed in Pickett's Charge. She
was pierced by a sword while acting as flag bearer and her husband was also
killed nearby.
Their names are not given in the article - perhaps they will never be known,
but it a touching story.
Most of the regiments who made up Pickett's Charge were from Georgia,
Virginia, Alabama, and South Carolina.
"The Hero of Pickett's Old Brigade" is now on line as the Featured Article in
my Best of Confederate Veteran's Magazine.

Click on Featured Article.
Enjoy!
This article will remain on line as the featured article through Mother's Day.
I've done the GA Military page now for several years, and have just
recently turned it over to Margie Daniels.
I'm sure she will breath some fresh air into it. If you've not checked it
lately, please do take a minute to be sure that we have ALL your rosters
listed. You may have put some on-line, and we missed getting them listed.
If anyone would be interested in helping out with any of the "other" GA
State pages, we'd love to have your help!
