Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Would the volunteer who wrote me in the last few weeks regarding the
GenConnect Boards and other alternatives for queries, please contact me?
Thanks,

GENEALOGY SOCIETY CHARTER MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW
For a limited time only. Charter Memberships in the newly renamed
"Ofefenokee Historical and Genealogical Society " are available for
substantial savings.
Due to the fact that the group is changing the name from the "Ware
County Genealogical Society
to "Ofefenokee Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc" [OHGS" the
group is offering charter membership to people who join by the end of
January.
"As you know, Charter memberships are usually reserved for the
'original founding' members of an organization and can never be offered
again. But , we have been given this 'second chance' and want to share
it with you" said Mrs. Linda Angell, founder of the Society.
Each new membership entitles the participant to four quarterly
issues of the "hoot Owl Express" the groups newsletter, chock full of
interesting historical articles and features. As added bonus, the
Society is offering to include free advertising [preferably in business
card format] in this year's issue of the "Express"
"By joining OHGS you will show how much you care by helping us to
preserve the historical and genealogical records of the area," said Mrs.
Angell. "you will also have access to the wealth of information
contained in our library. Many of our individual members own various
forms of research material and are always willing to share their data
and assist other members with look-ups, etc, and we are happy to share
their knowledge of genealogy research with new members"
The library is available for research - by appointment - at 1617
Ball Street, Waycross. You can email at angell(a)gate.net or call
912-283-6612 or 912-283- 2121
President of the Society is Terry Altman. Co-host of the GAWARE list
and also a founding member of "OHGS" is Ms. Judy Strickland. She can be
emailed at: jumeaujs(a)aol.com
"Make your choice now to make a difference in this new millennium, to
assist us in the preservation of the history of our beloved ancestors,"
said Ms. Strickland. "May we all be found faithful stewards of the
history that has passed through our hands to be kept safely for those
who will one day follow in our footsteps"

The Georgia Genealogist (and the Carolina Genealogist) was published by
Mary Boundurant Warren of Athens, GA, who also published "Family Puzzlers.
I received permisison from her to put the Thyatira Presbyterian Church
graveyard of Rowan Co. NC online. She published it in the summer of 1972
in the Carolina Genealogist.
She has two daughters online, Amy Warren Sanders and Eve Weeks. Amy heads
Heritage Papers now.
I will try to find Mary's e-mail address. If anybody has Mrs. Warren's
publication of th 1800 census of Oglethorpe county, maybe they would ask
for permission to put that online?

Happy New Year All!!!
Union Co., GA's extensive database of known dead/graves has a name
change!!!
Once called our Tombstone Transcription Database is now simply "Grave
Database".
The USGenWeb Project has a national "Tombstone Transcription Project"
which is presented completely different from what we are doing here in
Union Co., so we changed our database's name to avoid confusion.
The goal of our Grave Database is to list everyone known grave in Union
Co., in alphabetical order, including identifying information. We are
still collecting new cemetery surveys so we will also have who's buried
next to whom information.
To learn more about our Union Co. GA Grave Project, visit:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/graves.html
This is a new URL, so you will need to update your bookmarks.....
Happy New Year,
