If any of you decide to try these forms please change the link Virginia gave
you to
http://www.poppet.org/gafiles
This is due to our changing the filing to decrease on maintenance. Please
feel free to link to it and rest assured files
for your counties will come to you. Whether you link to it or not. For
example if someone is posting to one
of my counties and decide it should also be sent to one of your counties
they have the option of sending it to 3 counties.
It would come to the file manager for whichever counties are selected.
If you already have a link to
http://www.poppet.org/news don't panic as it
will redirect but update when you can get to it.
We have been test running this and I happen to love it. I do not have to
worry about file naming, adding headers, submitters
name or email address etc. it's all there when the file is created. All I
have to do is upload it and add it to the Table
of Contents and it's in an acceptable format! The two contributors who have
been helping test it like it as well.
As Virginia mentioned, it can also be set to arrange to have any files
copied to the mail list for a county, but we
will need the mailing list owners permission to do that.
Feel free to contact me if you have any thoughts or suggestions on these
forms. I hope you'll try it as I believe this
will help us all and as I told David today, if I can spend less time
uploading, I can put more time in abstracting!!
Thanks
Debra

Subject: [GAARCHIVE] New system for archives
Debra Crosby (our file manager) and her husband, David, have created
a new
system which is designed to save us all a good bit of time in posting data
on-line.
She and Lynn Cunningham (a contributor) have been testing it, and it seems
to work just fine.
He is continuing to add new "forms" to the system, but we think it is
working well enough for all of you to begin to use it.
http://www.poppet.org/news
David is working on a form for cemeteries.
The system is set up to automatically send the file to you (as file
manager) and also to the County mailing List that it belongs in.
At the present time, the files will be coming to you individually as
attached files. The mail lists are set separately and will need to be
requested by the mail list owner.
You would simply save them to your directories and then add to toc.
The automatic naming follows a numerical system... ob17, nw10, etc.

Glance at this page and you'll recognize the ones that have been newly
posted using that system. If you wanted to change the file name, you can
do that as you upload through WS_FTP.
Because all of the data will automatically have the correct header on it,
it makes loading go much faster.
Debra has it set up for her Pike County page....
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/pike.htm
Take a look at how she describes the process
1)Click here to transcribe and send in your records!
(they always have the option to e-mail to you personally as before)
You can add the "code" to your County page....and people can begin to use
it . Once you have the permission from the County List owner, just let
Debra know, so David can set up that county for it.

Try it out...and ask questions if it isn't clear to you. We're anxious to
see what you think.
