I could be wrong here, not knowing exactly how Ken is putting his list
together, but
I would think the most difficult and time consuming part of the project is
actually creating
that update page and not necessarily the emails. Are we wanting to cut down
on emails or
save Ken from being overloaded? If it is difficult to add the html links,
then just don't add
them and at the top of the page, like a USGenweb Disclaimer give
instructions on how to
copy paste into the browser. Keep in mind these files are searchable under
rootsweb and
most of us have these search boxes on our pages and the average researcher
is going
to check on their county archives page for updates.
I still prefer the idea of each Archivist being subscribed to the mail list
for the counties they
maintain and just sending out updates to that list as they post the files.
Of course this wouldn't help Bettie and you do have a point Virginia about
archivist wanting to
"compete" when they see what other counties are doing.
Just some thoughts!!

Subject: [GAARCHIVE] Continuing to "think"
Here's some other points to think about.
1)Sending the "new files" to ALL the counties..... seemed to inspire them
.....sort of remind them, if they didn't see "their county"
mentioned....and then they'd look in their files and submit something.
It always seemed to Ken and I that after the list went out we immediately
received data....so we thought there was a connection.
2)So the purpose is not only "for information to county researchers" where
something is actually posted for "their" county.....but also to inspire
others.
3)Bettie...
FGS really don't have counties per se....so what I mentioned about our
"thank you" going to a county referred to data donated to a specific
county.
Thanks for offering to do the FGS. summary...and I'll get with you after I
hear more from Ken. I think this might be a part of a solution.
4)Going to the UPLOAD page and getting our own lists.....that might really
be the solution.
anyway...keep thinking about this...
