When Linda was doing the weekly updates, the lists were orderly. When I copied and pasted
they stayed that way. Now, they all run together and requires a lot of extra work. We
need to know what Linda did that isn't being done now.
>1)How valuable is it?
It is one of our most valuable tools for obtaining submisssions.
> 2)Ken and I (and several others) have started sending the
"thank you"note

>Is this JUST as effective?
This is VERY effective. Probably the best idea. I, also do a monthly list for each of my
counties and usually get very swamped at the beginning of every month.
>3)He also keeps the Recent uploads page
>http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gauploads.html
>At a readers suggestion he even makes this one clickable....which is even
>more work for him!
This is not a big problem if I don't have to separate all the files.
>4)I had a note from someone who is List Owner for many, many
lists, and he

We all get the same posts on many lists. That's what the delete button is for.
>So what do you think?
>Should be we keep trying to do this....and just figure out a way so it
> isn't so much work for Ken?
>Or should we just let this one go...?
Anything that brings in more transcriptions shouldn't be omitted.
>5)What have you found to be the MOST effective way to get people
to learn
>about the value of the Archives?
Personal thank you notes with copies to the mail lists and the monthly update to the mail
list. Mary Love Berryman's "table" idea has been a big help in organizing
the data. If anyone hasn't done this on your Archive page, I highly recommend it.
>We've been doing something right for sure..... so I don't
want to go
>backwards...
I think the CC's need to become more active in getting documents transcribed and on
line by encouraging people in their mail lists as Jeanne Arguelles of Oglethorpe has
done.
>They have grown HUGE with adding the bio/family group sheet
project and just
>today
Yes, I agree with Debra on this one. I think they need to be done separately.
>I was also thinking about the Family Group Sheets going out as a
Separate
>e-mail....maybe by Betti<g> and then Ken wouldn't have to do those.
AMEN!!!
>It seems to me that there is a better use of time than Ken putting
up all of
>those urls. Recently I added a New Posts
>http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/madison/new02.html on the Madison
>County GAGenWeb Archives page. Madison County folks can go to that and see
>what has been added. It's a little more work for me but it makes all the
>Madison County Researchers very happy. I send a message to the Madison Co
>List every so often to remind them to look to see what has been added.
I do the same thing with my monthly mailing to the lists and this is very productive in
getting more material.
>I just figured he was a great guy, & had
>nothing
>better to do! LOL
HA HA!!!
>That's a good idea! Why didn't I think of that??ha Do I
just get them off the
>recent uploads page:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gauploads.html
>& then send them on to where?
Virginia will furnish you with the addresses and I will let you know when the page is
updated, usually on Monday or Tuesday, sometimes as late as Wednesday providing every one
agrees to do this.

We should all strive to get our submitted materials online as quickly as possible.
