Hi Denise,
The fact that he repeated the errors in the published material is pretty
conclusive in my opinion. I certainly think his "transcriptions" should be
deleted from the GAGenWeb Archives.

BTW have you had a chance to see if you have an old copy of the CChelper
database for Grady Co.?

Good Evening Everyone,
Need some help.
Please read the below email I received. My personal feeling on this is
that all of Gene Scott's cemetery transcriptions should be deleted and
removed from the GAGenWeb Archives. However, because I can't claim to be
completely knowable on the copyright laws, would like some other
interpretations.
If Mr. Scott claims to have completed the work himself, and denies using
their work, what should we do?
Thanks.

Denise,
I am president of the Fayette County Historical Society. In 1987, we first
printed our Cemetery Records of Fayette County. It is copyrighted
material.
We know that three of the people who have submitted work to your page
did
indeed survey the cemeteries and record their material. We have no
quarrel
with their choosing to post their work on the internet. Sara Jane
Overstreet, Jack Landrum and Jane Turner Strickland are members of the
society and have helped with surveys for the cemeteries that each posted.
I
cannot say for sure about the others with the exception of Gene E.
Scott.
At
least two cemeteries of Mr. Scott's submissions are DIRECTLY from
our
copyrighted material. It makes us very suspect that this is true of ALL
of
his material.
We base this on the fact that we have a few known to us errors in each of
those two cemeteries. Mr. Scott's submissions have everyone of those
errors.
One of the members of our board - who is chairman of the cemetery
committee-
has spoken to Mr. Scott and he denies having plagerized our work.
However,
knowing what we do about the errors, such coincidences would be
beyond
miraculous.
We are a small society. We are all volunteers. We do not appreciate
someone
choosing to claim that our copyrighted material, that was compiled
through
great effort by our members, is his.
We trust you will take care of this matter at your earliest convenience.
Thank you Janet H. Mack
