Hi All,
The past 3 weeks have been very hectic in my household. Anyway, on with
the show.....
According to the information I was given when I started working with the
Tombstone Project Pages, all file names need to be configure certain ways in
order to be standard through out the Tombstone project. It was not
mandatory that they be standard but you get into the habit of doing it one
way then it becomes easier.
1. all lower case names.....no caps
2. family cemeteries file names were done using the soundex......that way
soundex searches done were able to pick up those files for example Kirkland
k6240001.txt the 0001 designates the 1st Kirkland soundex file created,
and subsequent files would be 0002, 0003, etc.
3. no hyphen's or other characters, just text and numbers
Only I have access to the Tombstone Project TOC pages for GA, however we all
have access to the directories where the cemeteries are loaded into. So
any help that I can provide with them, please ask, and at the same time all
I ask is to be notified of cemetery transcription files either through this
email list or off-list of any files that you upload to your county sites
with a listing of the following per file uploaded: file location, Name
of cemetery, Submitter and submitter email address.
If any of you would like I have a soundex program that will automatically
tell you the soundex for a name as you type it in. It is very handy and
easy to use, also it is a very small file. (I love it) It is a freeware
program, so there is no cost to use it.
Before you upload any cemeteries please look to make sure that a file name
doesn't already exist for the file you are uploading. If you happen to
name a file the same as one already in the directory, please rename your
file that you are uploading. This will prevent any files that have already
been uploaded or may come behind you and upload do not get written over.
Also, last but not least.......I don't believe that it will be a problem,
however, I received a RW-CD Rom for Christmas. I am putting it to use.
I am in the process right now of downloading all of the GAGenWeb Archive
files. I believe that Rootsweb is Y2K fine, however, as a precaution,
and as a normal back-up I am downloading them. If anyone needs them, I
will have them on CD some time late tonight.
I have both AOL IM and ICQ I can be reached through either if anyone needs
help or just wants to chat.
AOL IM id: MnDnSnR
ICQ # 13240698
I will be on for several hours tonight and most of the next week. Hubby
leaves on Sat for 7 weeks....when he is gone, I seem to never get off the
net.
See everyone around. Have a good night, happy hunting, and happy new
year.
