Two things to think about and try to accomplish when you have the time
1) ftp:// to http://
2)Directory Standards
FTP - HTTP
I have been told that if we would change all of our URLs to http:// that
the visitor to a page will be able to load the files must faster. This
does work !! And also it may make our time in uploading quicker as well!
This should be fairly simple to accomplish -- with a 'search' and replace.
search for ftp://ftp
replace with
http://ftp
2) Directory Standards
While you're making some changes, please also check your directories and
try to use the following: (hope I've remembered all of them)
Acceptable sub-directories include:
/bibles/
/bios/
/cemeteries/
/census/
/court/
/deeds/
/land/ **although this will probably work, I think the Search engines would
work better if we all would use "deeds". I'm trying to change mine over
gradually.
/history
/letters/ ** this should be a subdirectory of history
/military/
/indian/
/civilwar/ (all the wars need to be subdirectory of military)
/revwar/
/warof1812/
/ww1/
/ww2/
/letters (this would be war letters)
/pensions/
/newspapers/
/obits/
/taxlists
/vitals/
/births/
/deaths/
/marriages/
/wills/
