We have 4 or 5 for VA.
5 have responded back that they don't have time for it anymore,
but they
didn't let me know until I emailed them. I have 2 more people who don't have
their archives on Rootsweb at all. Is there a rule or anything about this
as I would think it would be better to have it on Rootsweb for the search
engines and stats and so forth. Of the 2 who have their counties elsewhere,
Yes.. the files must be uploaded to the USGenWeb Archives in the
ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ directory. We are building a permanent
archives/library in one piece.
What do you do? I'm tired of walking on eggshells around them.
If I ask
about files or mention that these files were submitted, they get upset with
me, if I sit back and wait, they do nothing... Any suggestions from other
state FM's?
My priority and I've mentioned this before, is to get the text files
uploaded, even if it takes longer to update the toc html's. That way the
search engine will find the files within 24 hours, which helps
researchers. I'm very behind in the VA county tocs that I maintain, but
do keep up the KY ones at your urging, Boss. ;)
If the submitter asks why the file is "not listed", then I'll update the
html for them; but I've found that most submitters are using the search
engine to locate their files more than the tocs.
Our ftp directory was structured to be simple to navigate.
state/county/datatype/../../../ The html tocs have never been one of my
favorite things. Sorry, George. <g>
